How many others play P&P?

Im curious, It turns out that a suprising amount of people don't play P&P here, so Im curious about the exact numbers. So, Do you play P&P D&D?

I tried a few times, never really got anywhere with it. EFU is actually my first experience role playing with other people. Some friends are trying to set up a PnP campaign, EFU's given me a lot of ideas to try.

I occasionally play, once every three weeks or so. I tried DMing once, the rules lawyering, metagaming, powergaming, and the irritating attention to detail a player wished me to go into "How many copper pieces is that pitcher of ale? What types of beer are available? Those monsters are nowhere near our powerlevel! I've prepared a list of cloaks commonly found in Tethyr. I want to craft magical appareal. They wouldn't do that! I want to play a guard who uses a scythe, wears a black cloaked hood, and black armour called Grim Reaper!" turned me off

I've never done it again. Ever.

Lol, when my current D&D group started, Lotr was in full swing. I had to make it a rule that anyone who played as an obviously Movie character or mythos character gets a 30% XP reduction. The rule stands to this day. I just couldnt, COULDNT send a level 2 wizard named gandolf on a quest. I couldnt.

I used to play, but that was quite a while ago. These days, I just never seem to have the time (or nearby players) to even think about PnP. So in effect, the answer was No.

Tried a few times. Every time the group just dissolved after a few meetings because it wasn't interesting enough. That was our mistake, of course -- combat is such a chore to handle in PnP that if there's too much of it, people are bound to get bored. The rules, oh, all those rules...

I'd definitely like to try again some time, though. I've found that IRC-based PnP can be a lot of fun and much easier to arrange than live PnP.

*Climbs up on soapbox with help of a cane*

I started playing with a basic set in grammar school. That's right you wippersnappers, a basic set. Came in a little box with one each of them funny little dice. There weren't no fancy versions like 2 and 3. You multi-classed once and tha's all you got! *shakes his fist* None of this, well this level I will be this and this level I will be that! Bah! An you only had five races to choose from. And it was all on paper and we liked it dammit! None of these new fangled computer screens suckin the creativity out of you kids. *shakes head* It be a shame. Then there be that internet thingy. Porn on demand! Young naked flesh just a button click away. I... I....*falls over holding his heart*

I just turned 31 years old. So yes. A lot. It was great. But I haven't played PnP in like 15 years at least. I discovered girls, sports, and video games. I'm frankly quite amazed the PnP D&D has done as well as it has. Well, I'm here. So I guess I'm not THAT amazed.

Chiming in as one of the old fogies here.

I used to play PnP but not since the 80's. Ahh, we did not have any issues of people wanting to be movie stars at that time, so life was good back then. Played for hours on end, everyone's actions affected the world around you, and so everyone enjoyed their own spotlight.

It was fun, could be time consuming at times for the mathmatically challanged, but it was always tons of fun. Add in a pizza and the world was good.

Online gaming is now my only option as it is hard to get together consistently with a group in the same room. I suppose it would be easier for students here who have the "sweet" life still to get together to do PnP.

Me and a group of my mates plat P&p every sunday and its a great laugh. (In fact thats what got me into never winter nights in the first place)

Playing P&P makes you a minion of Satan, so I do not do it so I can eventually enter the Heaven thanks to the grace of my lord Jesus Christ.

None of you should play P&P, and if you do or did it is time to confess your sins and seek the help and power of Christ to purify yourself from the reek of the devil.

Lawl.

My step-mum used to.

I lose... I know...

I'm so old I remember when I would buy my PnP materials at the Ace Hardware and mail order through the Sears catalog (and that's the gospel truth!)

It's hard to find people who play around here. I've had some excellent experiences in the past with some people who've played for years. Though more difficult due to it's openness and mutability, PnP needs to be treated like a game, like EfU, instead of a vessel for one's fantasies. Otherwise it just gets silly, like Shipwrecked was talking about.

I've tried to find people that play in my area, but I live and go to school in such a ghetto place. the most ghetto place in canda, actually. WInnipeg. that's right, Winnipeg. So no, no one here plays PnP.

I did PnP Shadowrun once with some friends in high school but never PnP D&D. I would find it awkward to roleplay in a tabletop setting, and prefer the separation of keyboard and monitor for that kind of thing. If I did do P&P I'd want to run oldstyle dungeon crawls as a DM, it'd probably be quite fun.

I feel the same way, and I've done some tabletop roleplaying. It's not nearly as entertaining as dungeon stomping. Roleplaying should be left to the internet and the stage.

I still have a PnP group that meets every Sunday. We play by a modified (read: streamlined) set of rules in a pre-D-Day WWII setting. Right now we're getting our asses whooped by Rommel.

We're all history buffs, so we don't have much rules lawyering going down. Our DM has a very short fuse for that kind of crap, and the role-play moves at a pretty brisk pace.
