On Scribes (Again!)

I know this is likely to yield the same result as the other times I've brought it up, but I'm bored and thought I could at least share a recent idea I had for another possible addition: seals.

1) Make it possible to name notes. This is such a minor change and nothing is more annoying than picking up three notes to find that they're identical, just because they all are named something as informative as "Scribed Note." And it should be a pretty darn easy change as well.

2) Add an option to seal notes (letters). The forum isn't always ideal for delivering letters, such as when you want (need) somebody else to deliver them. However, currently there's no way to tell whether the letter was intercepted on the way, making it ICly difficult to know whether you can trust somebody.

It could work like this: sealing a letter adds a [Sealed] prefix to the note's name (so if you're writing a letter for Bob, it could be [Sealed] Letter for Bob). Now when you use the note, rather than displaying the message, open a dialogue that asks if the reader would like to break the seal and read the letter. Breaking the seal would then rename the letter to [Unsealed] Letter for Bob (and the break seal dialogue wouldn't happen again). I think this would be fairly easy to implement as well.

Of course, #2 practically demands that an option to fake seals be implemented at some point as well, but I'm sure that can wait. A long, long time.

3) Add a literate beggar (or any fitting alternative) to the Beacon, but make him charge food instead of coin, or whatever. A scribe in Lower isn't worth much when only faction PCs can use him anyway, and only having a public scribe in Upper is less than ideal.

I know scribed notes aren't working as Arkov intended, but we've been using the current system for a long time now, and chances are we will for still a long time. In the meantime, if indeed the system is ever replaced, these additions could add much!

Agree. Agree x 4.

I'm too scared to touch Arkov's system; it looks like he started to add these things, but they're incomplete or untested or something.
