Quick question, whats the difference between wild/wood elfs?

Just curious... I really dont see much of a difference between the two and would like to know more.

To my knowledge, Wood Elves are exclusively forest Elves, and not necessarily feral or anything. Druids of Silvanus and the like.

Wild elves are feral and more instinctual than Wood elves, and can live in Deserts and whatnot. Far more likely to be a Malarite than a Wood elf, instead of a druid of Silvanus, possibly.

No Malarite Elves, plz.

This post should give you the basics. Enjoy.

Wood elves. Sy'Tel'Quessir, are only partially isolated from most elven societies in large forests. They're native to Toril, which sets them apart from most elven races, which originally came from Fairie. Wood elven societies typically have an actual 'king', a ruler of a small region. They have their own rituals. Most elves regard them as rather brash, and hedonistic. They place more emphasis on physical strength than learning, however, there are some rare elven wizards amongst them.

Wild Elves are the most isolationist of all elven societies. They're known as somber, and unbending. Only on rare occasions do they show much frivolity, such as holidays. They're also extremely close to nature, and are typically almost impossible to find by outsiders. Most wild elven societies will kill non-elves that broach their borders on sight, or at the very least, knock them out and take them away from their society, depending on whether it was an accident, or not. They do not typically worship any of the Seldarine other than Rillifane, and have a complex system of totemic worship. There are no wizards in wild elven societies, but some rare sorcerors exist.

Only the former appear in the acclaimed "Elves Gone Wild" series of films.

No Malarite elves? Isn't Malar the God of the Hunt?

And destroying elvenkind, yes.

History/Relationships: Malar is an ancient deity who dates back to the days when the first beasts stalked the land. He has always hated the Fair Folk and maintains a long-standing alliance with Lolth against the Seldarine. Over the centuries, he has tried to usurp power from other deities with varying degrees of success. He is one of the Deities of Fury, along with Talos (his superior), Auril, and Umberlee, and he is allied with dark deities such as Bane and Loviatar. The Beastlord fights against the deities of peace, civilization, and nature, but harbors a particular loathing for Nobanion since that deity defeated him in a fierce conflict, known as the Roar of Shadows, during the Time of Troubles.

A bit off topic, but this is on the forums.

Alright well thank you for correcting me then. In all my time on NWN I've only ever seen one Malarite and it was an elven Malarite. Kinda interesting that Wilf Elves have always seemed the most feral PC race out there to me but they aren't accepted. I guess it's more of a half-orc type deity. :)

Malar's hatred of elvenkind dates back to the battle of Corellon Larethian with Gruumsh One-Eye.

Araushnee, whom would later become Lolth, at the time had enchanted Corellon's blade to break during the first blow of Gruumsh. It broke, and Sehanine appeared mid-fight to replace it. Although Corellon was severely injured and weary, he still managed to strike a blow that took Gruumsh's eye. Thus began the hatred of Gruumsh towards elven kind.

On Corellon's return trip to Arvandor, he found Malar waiting for him, hunting him within his own woods. Araushnee had tricked him into coming after Corellon, as 'No prey, even the Lord of the elves, should be beyond your grasp.' Well, being that Arvandor was Corellon's home plane, Corellon, who was badly injured still managed to humiliate Malar.

Ever since then, Malar has allied himself with Lolth against elvenkind. Recently Malar undertook an invasion of Evermeet in an alliance with Lolth, with the Sun Elven traitor Kymil Nimesin leading the mortals to battle(Kymil had slain King Zaor Moonflower previously, leaving Queen Amlaruil to lead Evermeet.). Malar unleashed the ancient elemental evil known as Ithyak-Ortheel, the elf eater upon the elven people, which was eventually banished from Evermeet by the avatar of Angharaddh. Lolth and Malar were humiliated, when Queen Amlaruil used High magic to transform their appearance into elves, which tricked the Elf Eater into chasing them from Arvandor.

That ought to give a brief history of Malar's relationship with the elven people.

Hmm...

*a new concept has just slapped him round the face*

No malarite elves, dammit!

Even though Brittany's post actually proves that surface elves -could- pledge allegiance to Malar, as Kymil Nimesin did. But he was uber, we don't want any of that on EfU.

Yes, Kymil Nimesin is as uber as Drizzt in my book. For those of you how know me, that's pretty darn uber.

And sarcastic.

I was stupid enough to play a malarite elf once, Don't.

Thanks for the info, think ill play a little sorceress wild elf since theyre rare :) adds flavor to the creation.

Sorcerers can't be that rare among adventuring wild elves since sorcerer is the race's favored class...

Note that in EfU, though, a wild elf will still have Favored Class: Wizard, like "ordinary" elves (moon elf is the default in NWN). It's something that can't be changed via scripting.

Anthee . It's something that can't be changed via scripting.
People are so quick to say that. It could be done, it just would take more time then its worth. Almost anything has a work around, just some routs are longer then others.

Oh, and arn't wild elfs usually rangers? Or have I been vastly mis-representing the class by having all my wild elfs archers? :(

Wild elves are a wildly attractive race concept, other than the fact that they aren't supposed to let people see them. Which makes me think: Well sure I'll be able to make one and have him emote being all sulky and independent, but that won't be enough to have people approach and chatter with me, aka actually RP.

That's nonsense, EvilPig. The more sulky and loner a PC is the more other PCs seem to want to be around him.

Better still, the lower your CHA, the more friends you'll make, simply because being around low-CHA characters is fucking hilarious.

FENARIS!

I concur, low CHA characters usually tend to have more people around them :P

Like ratty >:)

It's amazing how many Low CHA characters end up endearing.

Amazing!

When I play Low charisma, they freak out in crowds, and usually do something stupid where they end up in jail, alone.

On topic: Wood elves are fun to play simply because you get the +2 strength, and the -2 charisma makes life tougher on them.
