Letter to The Council

Greetings!

This missive penned to you from the desk of Ambassador Kaur; he who is Herald to The Shadow.

In light of recent events The Embassy of The Shadow Tribe has decided to pen this letter in order to make several requests to The Council. We ask below for your compassion and your aid.

Recently, The Holy City of Our Lord of Shadows was attacked. This attack was provoked by the placement of an artefact of great strength within the city. My Master, Etorix the Protector, had uncovered that one of your Watchmen held a similar artefact some time before this. He knew also that the giant Zovalder plotted to march upon your city. Thus he tasked his best kobolds to retrieve another of the artefacts the giant sook, so that the brunt of his forces and his own ire would be drawn down upon The Holy City of Our Lord of Shadows, and not upon Sanctuary. The attack was brutal. Over a thousand formian assaulted the city. Countless more than Sanctuary endured in its own attack. The Lord of Wyrms, Etorix the Magnificent, descended to join the fray within the city. Many formian were layed low, leaving only a hundred or so in the end. He then joined battle with Zovalder the mummy giant. Though being wounded in the assault slightly, the mummy was forced from the gates and fled back to his lair.

The time bought in this diversionary attack was perhaps more useful than the sheer numbers of Formians destroyed. Formians that would never be brought to bear against your gates. Etorix knew this time would be needed for the Watchman hero to unlock the powers of Saint Andrew of Torm which lay dormant within the helm he held. Following this My Lord did order a war of attrition far from your gates, within The Sand Caverns, so as to reduce the numbers of these formian. Their numbers fell from two thousand to two hundred. At this number Sanctuary were able to repel the assault. Yet left to their own devices, could Sanctuary truly have stood against the full force of two thousand? We believe not.

The costs were devastating however. Mining operations within His City are slowed in the wake of the attack. Countless warriors of The Holy Shadow lay dead. We ask now for three things.

1. An aid package be put together by Sanctuary for the kobolds of The Holy City of Our Lord of Shadows. Despite being numerous, Our Lord's kobolds are not as industrious as Sanctuary. Processed Zurkh, foodstuffs, fabrics and materials would all be very welcomed. A small gold tribute of 20,000 gold to assist in the rebuilding would also be welcomed indeed. This would ensure that mining operations resumed with haste. Beyond this, we believe it a sign of friendship and thanks from Sanctuary for the great boons Etorix provided in these times of need.

2. The destruction of the statue of Our Most Holy Lord and Protector, Etorix, is met with sadness. We would like permission from the council to erect a new statue. This one will be placed within the now vacant bay like structure at the main gate, which formerly held a Spellguard animatron. With its destruction a symbol of the creature that protects you is a fine addition we believe.

3. That the Council make public their thanks to Etorix for the aid he and his servants offered during this time of crisis. We also ask that they publicly condemn these naysayer’s who speak blasphemy of the defeat of Our Lord at the hands of this pathetic giant.

We hope you will consider these requests as soon as possible. We thank you also for your time and your hospitality here in this city.

Sincerely,

The Embassy of Etorix the Dutiful

I welcome a new envoy of the Great Shadow to our city. I will forward your concerns to the council. However, one thing puzzles me, why do you need gold to rebuild your city, it is my understanding Great Shadow does not pay to kobolds for their service, so wouldn't material like shaped rock from our quarry be more useful?

Esteemed Councillor Crowshire,

A true shame we have yet to meet in person! As to your query about the gold-

It will be used primarily to purchase equipment that Sanctuary is ill equipped to provide. You must understand that the battle His tribe endured for you was fierce indeed! Ten score more than the formian which assaulted your gates. It has caused serious harm to the mining enterprise which currently supplies Sanctuary with all its metal. The level of gold offered will be proportional to the speed that the mines may be open again. A smaller amount will certainly see them open again, but at the expense of time.

-Ambassador Kaur

I hope that we may have a meeting as soon as possible, and discuss the matters. How is envoy Mulciber? I have not heard from him in ages.

Good Councillor,

Utter villainy! Such I have been confronted with since my stay within this city. One Watchmen, Alabaster Rubyglow, has almost managed to single-handedly shatter relations between The Great Shadow, Etorix the Altruistic, and Sanctuary.

He has several times hired adventurers and dispatched them to Sslaal'teesh in order to estimate the number of battle capable kobolds within the city and surrounding area, as a selfproclaimed precursor for an attack. He has made clear and public his intention to destroy and demolish The Shadow Embassy. He has made public challenges towards Etorix himeslf, but cowers at offers to bring his words before my Lord.

I can do nothing less than strongly request he be punished for these clearly hostile actions. Should this be allowed to continue then I fear The Shadow Tribe may be able to do nothing less than consider them acts of war, as this gnome is a member of the largest defense force in Sanctuary. This would be a very poor situation for Sanctuary to find itself in, and one we wish to avoid.

I request that this private be suspended for a period of one tenday. I request also that any further talk to this effect from either him or his fellow Watch members be punished with immediate removal from The Watch.

I await reply!

-Ambassador Kaur

The private in question has been discharged, I hope this does indeed help to mend the problems our cities had.
