Letter to Naradin He'ami

Mister He'ami,

My name is Katherine Leronna, Sentinel of Helm. I have recently read your book concerning Helm in the Library and I simply wish to state that it was beautifully written and I enjoyed reading the first page of it.

To this, I must also ask you a question. While I understand that it would be strange and rare for an elf to forsake his elven ways and elven gods, would you now consider yourself a follower of He of the Unsleeping Eyes or simply an admirer of his ways?

We should meet soon and discuss this further or you may reply me by sending a letter addressed to me at the Last Stand.

May He of the Unsleeping Eyes watch vigilantly over you and guide you to be ever watchful and ever knowledgeable of our enemies.

Katherine Leronna.

Katherine Leronna,

I would like to thank you for reading my book, and the kind words you had to say about it. In response to your question I do consider myself a devotee of Helm. I freely admit that, being an elf and given my trade, this may seem an unsual choice, but it is the one that brings me contentment.

However, I do not feel as if I have forsaken any elven god or way. While my choice is unconventional, I was never devout in my youth and only gave the meekest of praises to those my people usually worship. Would it not then be unfair to both the god and the worshipper to have a weak faith? If I were a general, I would rather 10 men who would follow me into the Nine Hells than 100 who would flee after the first charge. Although Helm is worshipped primarily by humans, can not an elf feel a higher calling than himself and his own? I know the answer to this question in my heart and I say to you again that I am a devoutee of Helm.

Many of my people feel that humans are lesser creatures, as evidenced by the fact that their lives are so much shorter than ours, but I say this gives them a greater insight into the pursuit of what truly matters. Even with all our centuries of life, we stand as equals next to many other races, evidence of how relaxed we can be at times.

In any event, I would still like to meet with you for a discussion of our mutual beliefs. I believe it will prove a fruitful meeting.

May the Watcher Keep You,

Naradin He'ami.
