Letter to the Watch House

Men and women of the Watch,

I seek answers concerning the brutal attack upon my church and my people. A gnomish brother of New Dunwarren tells me a Watch assault on Lower that used our lift was the spark that caused this conflagration of death.

Certainly Sir Alabaster was central to this, and I would know if he yet survives, along with any other of the Greycloak order.

I would prefer to legally join forces with you to enforce justice upon those who perpetrated this atrocity. Many of you know me and my character, yet still I wait for word whether I will be added to your noble ranks.

Sir Geoffrey Wellington

Sir Geoffrey Wellington,

I claim full responsibility for what occurred, and hope that I will be punished accordingly. We are currently researching methods to recharge the failing Watch amulets, and Alabaster suggested that the energy source of a Machine Core underneath New Dunwarren be used to test the theory. Leading Private Alabaster Rubyglow, myself, Ordinant Kepler Szul, and Naradin travelled to New Dunwarren, and Alabaster guided us to the Machine Core by using the lift to the Lower City. I did not know until we arrived in New Dunwarren, where the Machine Core actually was located, but I should have made it my business to know. Once in the Lower City, we went to the Machine Core in the alleyways without incident, and discovered that the energy there could not be used to revitalize the failing dweomers within the Watch amulets. On our return to New Dunwarren, a beggar in the alleyways screamed that the Watch was invading Lower, and began to run.......only to fall victim to an electrical discharge from above, caused by the ambient emanations in the area, due to an active Machine Core. We were taking his body to New Dunwarren for burial, when another beggar spotted us, and began to scream to all of the Lower City that Upper and New Dunwarren were invading. We tried to convince him otherwise, but he would not be reasoned with, and ran off to spread the word.

My research caused this misunderstanding, and I expect to answer for it accordingly, as the results of this mistake caused the deaths of some of the finest men in this city.
