Suggesting Kobold Sorcerers, all with Fireballs. Nothing but Fireballs.
All monk/sorcerers with fireballs. Nothing but fireballs and plot immune dodging of said fireballs at point blank.

How'about you just make a real ex-slave.. Read about how real people react to such things as enslavement or torture and bring in a character that is defines by who he is- rather then who he walks around with.
Therefore play a character personality that you like, and bring in a guy with a blank slate. Someone running from their past like a bat outta hell. Then you can Rp reacting to people and the setting in a very human way, over a predefined cult-zealot-brainwashed-factions.
I vote fireball. You should so app to play a walking fireball.
