Hi, On other PW's I've been on, people could volunteer to have their PC's kidnapped, and a group had to follow and save the from Sacrifice to a god, being fed to spiders, etc. If the group failed, the person can try to esacape, but usually the person is Spider food. It made great RP, and was always fun to be the one kidnapped. Just a sudguestion.
An occasional, valunteer, super-spiced quest
I like this idea. It would be a great way to find an end to characters one's lost interest in playing or maintaining. At least, a lot better than "Brave Nice Guy died in a battle against Urdlen gnomes //don't feel like rezzing, rolling a new char!".
I think they've done this in the past......
This can and does happen, except you don't always get them out alive, through the natural course of events.
It does happen from time to time, but we all prefer it when it's unexpected. "Hello I want to be captured so my friends can rescue me" is like a silly tea party, which this setting is not.
The organized times when this does sometime occur to some extend is during preludes. Even then, however, we try to spice it up.
Ah, memories. I was once kidnapped by the PC Lord of Vampires on another server, and the King himself rescued me. I felt like the Girl without Hands.
Oh yeah, that jerk cut off my damn hands! What the hell!
While this is a nice idea. I prefer the surprise spice more then the prepared spice. I'd much rather a bunch of pcs suddenly have thier friend kidnapped and frantically try to find him. Then a pc knowing ahead of time, and then a pc's party like "OH a dm's got him okay."
Surprise is fun. Neat idea though.
There's always SoO's dungeon.

My very first char on this server was kidnapped by slavers in the sewers, to eventually be searched out and freed by other chars! It was awesome.
So this does happen, but randomly.
I had a druid caprtured by a drow priestess who lost her powers and wanted to sacrifice me to gain them back. I agree, it was totally awesome! Things like this can and do happen!! But not if you just sit in town all day long mind you. Like strife said, it's random and best kept that way.
I agree, the total surprise element of things as being kidnapped is what makes the server enjoyable and unpredictable.
Somehow, I think Hammerfist0's chance of being kidnapped in the near future just increased...
