Letter written by Haldor Longhand Greetings to you,I am offended and saddened at your unfounded accusations and slander against my good name in your public notices.
I shall begin my reply by stating that honorable and true men are contented with what they have, regardless of winning or losing and they certainly hold no fears about losing. Are you an honorable man, Saevel? If you are one then you would not be afraid of losing and you would not be afraid of seeing me elected.
In my opinion, using slander against other candidates only makes you seem desperate and afraid of losing. Be a real man and stand up for what you believe in firmly and do not depend on petty slander to triumph.
Now as to why your words about me is slander. Well, first you accuse me of having no qualms about sacrificing the people of Sanctuary due simply to the matter of principle. I say to you that is truly far from the truth, my policies will be about defense not offense and I would not sacrifice anyone at all, but when we are pushed around by other vile beasts and forced to compromise we are fully justified to fight back and we should even at the risk of death and it is you who is even more likely to sacrifice all sense of Justice, Honor and Lives for the mere sake of vengeance against the Drow.
You ought to tell us all the truth before you accuse me or any other. Do you truly care about Sanctuary and its people or is your true intentions simply to fight the Drow you hate so much?
Oh and by all means tell me which is better? To sacrifice lives and all the virtues that actually make us better than the Drow and that which makes our cause actually worth fighting for; though yes we will likely triumph in the battles against the Drow, but in the end we would have a broken Society that simply does everything to survive regardless if it is right or wrong and our foul allies would likely just stab us in the back.
Or we can stand up for the virtues that makes us strong and wonderful even at the risk of death to create a perfect society that will stand the test of time; the end effect is that we will still triumph in the battles against the Drow, even though with more casualties, but in the end we would have a strong society and an elite force of defenders.
Truly it is you who do not think of what the future will bring, but only about vengeance. You ought to think out of the box and see the truth and I thought elves speak much about freedom.
The truly free knows that freedom is worth fighting and dying for regardless of the odds against them. We are not being free by making compromises and alliances with other evil and foul creatures out of fear of losing to the Drow.
Lastly, we need not be speaking against each other. All I ask is an apology from you and some changes in your ideas, but regardless of your decision, I am a man of Honor and as such a man I will never slander nor insult you in return.

A sealed letter to Saevel Moondown
The letter smells heavily of moss Priest of One-Hand, Longfingers,
The Underdark is dangerous, you all must do everything you can to survive for you are considered mere cattle by the powers here. Play all of them against each other so they are weakened for the strike of righteous wrath, as a snake which watches and waits in the long grass for its prey. A society that does what it must to survive is better than a dead one that foolishly refuses to buy aid with gold.
You are wrong when you say I slander you, the words I wrote are truth, I do not bow down to petty slander as you say as so many of your kind do with their honeysuckled words and empty promises.
You have said yourself that you would throw away the alliance with the great Drow slaying wyrm because it has a greed to match its size and vermin servants. You said you would disband the trade agreement for much needed iron, because you do not want a mere statue that does nothing to hinder the town outside the gates. When asked where you would find the replacement metal, you said you do not know. Madness!
As for the most cursed and hated Drow, the betrayers of the Seldarine, the false and twisted, the enslavers of most of your people here, they will be coming to attack your town for a new Matron Mother has arisen, their levels of dissent and discord are still high, but it is dropping down to what is normal for the Drow, soon they will focus themselves externally and a den of potential slaves is a profitable prospect for them. The new Matron Mother will be looking to prove herself, taking all of Sanctuary as slaves will please the Spider Queen. I do not wish to see you in power if you would throw away allies against them over petty human principles! For one who claims to know truth, you are misleading. I have illuminated what you will do to your people. Say what you will against me, it does not matter, I know what has to be done, and I will continue fighting regardless of whether the humans make me one of their leaders.
Lastly, never have I said we would declare war, it has already been declared by the Drow the moment they started taking your people as slaves. This is the calm before the storm, the town must burrow deep to outlast it, then arise anew and strike out as they retreat!
Saevel Moondown
Haldor Longhand's letter in reply Greetings,I do believe you are being very hypocritical and bearing much hatred towards humanity now. You speak so much of how twisted and cruel the Drow are, yet how are the kobolds and the dragon any different? In truth the Shadow dragon is even more intelligent and calculating than the Drow are. Regardless, how are we any different than the Drow if we play by their rules and not ours?
You call my ways madness and my principles petty, yet any intelligent strategist and tactician can tell you that it is an idiotic strategy to play by the rules of your enemies and not your own.
Secondly, would you work with the Drow if an even greater threat threatens your own Elven people? I highly doubt that, but if you are actually willing to do that I ought to say that you are a disgrace to your people and you are a coward who is so afraid of death that you would not stand up for your own people and their ways.
Thirdly, look around Sanctuary and you will see it separated, filled with crime, discord and a lack of principles. It is much weaker due to that too and the cause of that is actually due to your own opinion of "Lets do everything we must to survive even if it is evil and wrong".
It is when people believe that everything goes and that there are no absolutes that they become like the thugs, murderers, thieves and cowards like the ones in Lower. Now if the Society of Sanctuary actually held a strong sense of Moral Code, Justice and other virtues we would not even need to depend on untrustworthy allies because for every criminal and corrupt person we have now the majority of them would be loyal citizens who would fight for us against the Drow threat.
Now you may say that due to the current situation we cannot wait for a strong society to be forged, but this is simply an excuse because once we have survived the Drow invasion people like you would only come up with other excuses and point to the Illithid and then the Duergar next and then who knows what.
Let us not run and hide away from the true source of our troubles, but admit that Sanctuary's true problems come from within and work together to solve them. We ought to start now too.
Fourthly, you ought to rethink your own ways and belief. The great crusade against evil is only great due to its true purpose; the defense of the innocent, the good and the just. At any moment that the actions you commit to defend them harms them in any way, you are no longer fighting against evil or for the sake of good people, but for the sake of your own anger and wish for revenge.
Your compromises actually harm the Society of Sanctuary and the spiritual strength and the virtues of its people by giving an example that your actions are acceptable. Therefore they would only slowly become corrupted and once corrupted they are no longer innocent, good or just and thus the great Crusade becomes a failure.
Basically, there is completely no point in winning the battles, but losing the war because in the end we would only become exactly like the Drow, the very same Drow you speak so hatefully of currently. Think of the future, Saevel and not of false glories and false victories.
We ought to do all that is good and just that we can to protect others, but never what is evil and wrong. The ends do not justify evil and unjust means, such actions only allow evil to triumph in the end.
Lastly, I do respect your concerns and intentions, but know that you are walking a dangerous path and if you continue on this path, you may become the very monster you so wish to defeat. Do be wary.
