Could you please see that any information you acquire about yesterday's attempt on my life will be forwarded to me. I am especially interested in a possible motive.
Private Dedrick said he proceed with opening up the corpse if there is any mind flayer presence detected. I would like the report of this forwarded to me as well.
Respectfully,
Councillor Wyric Crowshire

Councilor,
Neither Private present when you were assaulted has filed a report. Until one of them does, I have no information on your assault that you do not already possess. As for your absurd desire to desecrate this body in a vain effort to search if for implants, I would suggest you reconsider. Men have been comitting crimes and falling into corruption and darkness without the assistance of the Illithid for countless ages; there is no reason to believe that every individual who might wish you harm was enthralled. Even if he were, it is a moot point; you will find obtain no answers from a shattered corpse. This was most likely simply what it appeared; a wild, random attack, for reasons currently unknown. Ascertaining those reasons will only come from questioning those associated with the victim or obtaining written documents from him, if they are to come-not by tearing apart his remains.
I understand your fear of the Illithid. Yet you cannot allow paranoia to take hold of you and allow you to begin lashing out at the shadows, heedless of whether they contain a foe, nothing-or merely another frightened soul seeking shelter from the terrors of the night.

When would you be expecting a report, I presume the privates cannot just choose not to report or file whenever they wish. Due to increased mind flayer activity in our city, and the child assassins we both have had to fight, I merely wish to eliminate that being the case here. I was told gathering evidence is also process of eliminating possibilities.

Crowshire,
These are the reports filed by both Privates involved with the investigation.
Councillor Crowshire was in the Last Stand, having a drink. He was approached by a halfling with a black ponytail. He told Councillor Crowshire that he supported him during the elections, and had voted for him. He tugged upon his cloak and jokingly suggested that merchants be banned for overcharging.
Councillor Crowshire told him that he supported free trade. The halfling then, for no apparent reason, attacked Councillor Crowshire with two daggers. An elf, named Anarail Cent, helped Councillor Crowshire. The halfling was killed.
Private Dedrick took the halflings body to the mausoleum. He then ordered the body burned, after checking it for thrall implants. This means that we cannot identify the halfling or his possessions from the charred remains.

Correction & Addendum: I made clear that I intended to dispose of the body as I took it from the Last Stand where a crowd was gathering. There were no objections. I carried it to the Mausoleum where I inspected it for implants and surgical marks. Finding none, I then requested that Izarious Patten look it over as well. Finding none himself, I then suggested that the body be cremated and any strange objects found within delivered to the Watch House.
This was a reasonable course of action due to the fact that Council Wyric Crowshire was nearly assassinated less than a month ago by one of the Thrall Children. Based on the report given by Councilor Crowshire it is obvious that he was either implanted or insane.
Additionally, my judgment to burn the body was primarily based on the fact that it is the standard method of disposal of criminals after they are slain, and I did not wish to risk allies of the criminal attempting to raise him for a second attempt on the Councilor's life. Also, the only other way to inspect the body for deep internal implants is to begin cutting it open. The Councilor requested that I perform such a procedure, but I declined having no real knowledge of where or how to cut and not wishing to actively desecrate humanoid remains.
