Letters to Sheriff Azzam [DM] & Councillor Crowshire

Two identical letters are sent - one left at the Office of the Herald addressed to Councillor Wyric Crowshire, the other given to the guard at the Watch-House addressed to Sheriff Azzam.

Esteemed Sir,

It is a sad day when a man is executed, who also shows signs of enthrallment. Ordinant Drilacko Kanaut died before his due time, in unfortunate circumstances.

The Society of the Ordered Mind endeavours, every single day, to locate, detain, and cleanse thralls inside and outside the boundaries of this place that we survivors of slavery of all kinds call Sanctuary. Before Ordinant Kanaut's obvious slide into insanity, he was incredibly adept at hunting aberrants. It is the subtle and malign threat of the illithid that eventually wore through the iron will of his dedication to the Crusade. He wished to save the people who could not see the monsters who hunt them in the streets and by-ways of our town-ships. Basically, he did not want others to suffer the way that he had suffered at the hands of the aberrant menace. In the end, Drilacko Kanaut needed our help, not our condemnation.

In the interests of future public safety in Sanctuary and its environs, I am asking that a copy of the trial records of Ordinant Drilacko Kanaut's court case be forwarded to the Society of the Ordered Mind for our own records. I do not know whether Kanaut had legal representation at his case, or was capable of defending himself, considering the intense physical and mental anguish he was obviously suffering from during the trial. The Society seeks to rectify this situation in future cases where an Ordinant is made to stand trial for criminal activity directly atributable to enthrallment. The trial records can be sent to the Society Chapterhouse at New Dunwarren, or sent to the Sanctuary Library addressed to me.

Thankyou for your time and effort, and may Mystra bless you,

- Ordinant Kepler Szul
