A Scroll in New Dunwarren

A scroll plummets from the ceiling, accompanied by the overhead squeakings of a bat.

God Followers-

I write to give you the chance to explain your statement concerning the alleys adjacent to our Mycopolis.

These lands are not yours, and your church has no authority to simply claim them. Long before your settlement existed this land belonged to our people and the Cave Worms. It is we who have fought the undead goblins for so long, keeping them from spilling forth into our lands and Lower.

We have already begun to reseed these lands. Soon, they will once again be natural caves, teeming with plants and creatures. There will be food enough for all - something you cannot hope to promise. And this land will indeed be welcome to all who will embrace harmony with our lands, just as Mycopolis is now.

If it is healing you wish to offer people, perhaps we can work out an honorable agreement in which a healer of yours could dwell in the area. Perhaps we could supply them with the herbs necessary.

However, these lands are not yours- they are Mycopolis. Only we can heal these lands.

-Alum Fensbane

[a scroll is hand delivered to the guards outside the Cave Worm Clan cavern]

Alum Fensbane of Mycopolis,

I am encouraged to see that you can write in a civilized manner. I had wrongly heard that you did not practice such. Perhaps discourse is possible amongst us.

However, we are the folk who daily battled with the undead that spewed from our depths. Come to our settlement, and see the funeral pyres of both our dead, and the husks of the decaying gnome undead that have assaulted us in wave after wave. We undertook the risk and indeed lost good men to purge the abominations that threatened the defenseless citizens of lower and the surrounding area. We have earned claim to these lands by the worth of our own blood, sweat and perseverance.

These buildings can offer shelter to the newly arrived who have nothing. They are not wilderness, nor should they be. We are people, and people require the basic necessities of life. Shelter, law, food, water and their faith.

We require the room for our faithful to live, and worship the Triad in the sanctity of our holy temple. We will not abdicate these lands, and instead suggest that the sprawling area you already claim, including the cave of your Tribe, is sufficient room for your needs.

Tell me, man of the wilds: Why is it that seek to take shelter from those who need it, when there is already so much wildnerness that surrounds us all? If you require more room, simply claim the lands near the former gate, and the many miles of the Dark Canal beyond.

New Haven has been purified by those of New Dunwarren, according to the wishes of the Holy Triad, and we will defend it as such. All are welcome to dwell there, but the structures that protect the people will not be destroyed by any other. Your curious words hinting that men should live as animals, befeft of shelter are strange to us, yet we respect your personal views and way of life.
