Nwn and Windows XP x64 bits edition.

Guys, soon I'll have to update my system, jumping to a dual core. So I'll have to use Windows xp x64bits in order to get good results out of it. So, anyone knows if its possible to run NWN in Wx64, if I need a patch or can't run at all? I've contacted Bioware support about it but no answer yet.

64 bit processors can run 32 bit programs, you need no patch. The game is coded for 32 bit so it will be run as if your CPU was 32 bit.

Yes, but programs designed over Windows 98 plataform doesn't work in x64, as far as I know. Only softwares designed for Windows XP or 2003 Sever will run in Windows x64 bits. But since Nwn is around 5 years old, I don't know. Well, I'll keep a HD running XP just to make sure.

Meh, I atleast play nwn with windows xp. No problem here.

The fact Win98 was still alive 5 years ago doesn't mean Bioware developed the game for it, be sure you can play NWN on your 64 bit CPU.

Haquin Only softwares designed for Windows XP or 2003 Sever will run in Windows x64 bits.
Wrong. 32 bit softwares work on a 64 bit CPU, they just force the CPU to work as a 32 bit.

There are no 64 bits programs (AFAIK) ready yet, aside the Windows XP 64 edition and all the Linux distributions

I'm not sure how much hardware is fully 64 bit compatible yet. Last I saw, nvidia was betaing 64bit drivers, so a heads up, your 32 bit drivers for hardware may (probably) not work and you'll be needing 64 bit ones from the net.

I'll be in the same situation, i'm looking to go x64 in the summer I think. By then I hope most companies have a set of 64bit drivers running properly.

nVidia has 64 bit drivers already.

The first true dual core PC game will be the next Microsoft Flight Simulator game.

You can still run most (if not all) 32 bit XP games on 64 bit windows.

Well, you can blame intel for that. Since it was intel who 'asked' microsoft to slow down the x64, since they didn't have a good 64 cpu-solution by the time (and it still doesn’t).

I had a word with Microsoft's tech manager in my city, who actually gave me a copy of Windows 64, he said any applications with specific windows xp driver will run perfectly. But is require the 64 drivers for full work. (Duh)

Also told me to watch out for Windows 98 drivers, any hardware or software based only in that driver won’t run or it can be ran under heavy pressure/instability.

Btw, many people said great thing about nwn 64, including stability/speed, especially with the shinny water stuff. Don’t know why though.

Anyway, I’m just worried with my Lexmark printer, every other hardware / software I use already has a 64-version driver. Beside Zone Alarm, still working on Beta. Both nVidia and Creative are fully operation with 64, my biggest fear to be true.

Well, I’m quite away from nwn because of that, tons of backups and stuff to finish downloading, I should change to 64 this weekend, I’ll give my review later XD.

All thanks to crazy digital tv project...

So ultimately, he was a waste of time.

Not at all, I won a free serial!
