Hey,
Just wondering if for everyone under 10int there could be a "more proper" dialouge tree with NPCs. I just figure from a RP viewpoint my 8int half-orc probably wouldnt be near as well-spoken as my options give me, and also I figure that he wouldnt have some of the more preceptive choices on the tree. I guess I just get irked when I spend all day making sure I talk like "Me is sleepy" just to have a perfectly normal conversation with the innkeeper to procure a room. Its not an end-all be-all for me, I was just wondering.
Also, awsome server here- I have been loving it!

I generally just ignore the dialogue options if it doesn't suit the character.
You're also free to type out his response and then hit the neccesary option.

Cool, nice idea- I didnt think about putting in my own dialouge.

Problem with doing stuff like under 10 int dialogue is payoff vs effort. On one hand, I could go put in under 10 int dialogue for a bunch of convos. On the other hand I can code rat fights and multiple summons. I think people will get more enjoyment out of the latter, so I'll keep my time focused there.

The dialogue options are not an exact, accurate account of what your character says - rather, the message that your character conveys in whatever way he or she would talk. If your Int is 8, assume you're getting the message across but in a "me want room, want sleep" -way. If your Int is 18, assume you're getting it across in a perhaps more elaborate and wordy manner.

Indeed, there are so many possible ways of talk that it is impossible to code them all as dialogue options; generally it is best to pretend your character has actually spoken in the way he or she usually does.

-IF- you do that though, be considerate of the first time players (most servers that use this feature usually aren't), as the description of Intelligence at character creation says "Lower than 9, your character cannot speak properly", so I got a bit annoyed when I made a 9 Int character who talked like "You gots stuff I wants?"
'Course, she wouldn't have used very refined speech ("Uhm.. you er like, got somethin' I might want?").. but -that- was a bit over the top. :)

"Yous gots stuffs I wants"
Would be more of an issue with charisma, the intelegence comes in when he knows what to say but the charisma comes in when he decides HOW to say it. But thats just the way I'd play it.

I had seen it implemented on another server i frequented, my favorite part was how it showed min-maxers what their poeple really were. One moment spilling out some long nefarious monolouge about their "dark tortured, l33t warrior soul", then turning to she shopkeep and sounding like he has a speech impedement!

Just to clarify. You speak normally with 9 int. Anything below that and you're supposed to start talking wierd, or...wierder.

Really? I always thought because 9 was the start of the ability detraction that was when it began.

Go to create a new character, and click on INT. It says "characters with lower than 9 intelligence...." ect.

Since Humans normally have Intelligence scores 10 or 11 and since penalty kicks in at 9 and lower; 9 should be considered BELOW average.

But not immediatly stupid. If an average person's IQ would be a 100 (using INT 10) and person with 9 INT would have an IQ of say 92,5. That does not mean you're an idiot. You just have problems learning stuff. It also does not mean you're a drooling fool who does everything he's told to do. That would come back in your Wisdom check.
Moreover, a high-Intelligence character still does not mean he can talk properly. Half-Orcs with tusks would likely still have problems talking in the sophisticated Elven tongue.

I agree. 9 int doesn't make you totally stupid, your just... Well, perhaps a slightly more simple guy? I'd say you're a total bonehead if you have like int of 6-8
