While browsing the net it's come to my attention that my character's given name is the same as a character in a FR book with a very similar concept. I never even read the book before or heard of the character. My character's name is Qaledus but gives his name as Cale, the FR character is the protagonist Erevis Cale from some trilogy. Those who know me, cut me a little leeway in game as I try to work around it...didn't mean to be one of those Drizzt/Drizzit/Drizzzetc wannabees.
Oops...an honest mistake
How dare you!
Honestly though, I think its probably vague enough that the majority of people won't even know and those that do probably won't give you a hard time about it.
Besides, people often have the same names or similar names anyway. So, it's all good.
Don't sweat it. There were famous people named Fred and Bill, too, but we're not gonna prohibit those names.
-Cross (One of our DMs had a character named Kale. What a copycat...)
I consider myself an avid FR novelist, and have read all of the Drizzt series and others. I didn't even notice it, so I don't think it should be a big deal.
I have never read a FR book so atleast i wont know who you are talking about ;)
Heh and you never noticed that his second name is Farnsworth XD

I met Saladin today. That's gotta count for something. Crusade comming up!1! 8)
There are plenty of ways to come up with or find unique sounding names for your characters. I think there are some stickies on this subject already. Maybe some sample FR style names for each race would be nice. I definitely prefer encountering characters that don't have obvious real world names or names of famous fantasy characters. Just more immersive in my opinion.
