I was recently informed that this quest's spawns have become far too easy recently, but as I'm aware of no changes to the quests recently I'm a bit mystified. Pinning down when exactly the spawns changed (how many days ago) would be useful if anyone noticed.
Goblin Fortress
Longer than 2 weeks ago is my guess. I recall thinking it was far easier sometime ago.
Maybe the quest didn't get easier, maybe the players just got stronger. As I recall, 2 weeks ago only a few scattered level 7's excist, while level 7 is starting to become the majority of things. They also are far better supplied with magical things, and no warrior goes without a Fullplate these days. I believe some people also acted on trap lay-outs, but I'm not a 100% sure. They could just be really lucky :? .
Well, two or three days ago we stormed the Fortress with a four man team and it was a toughy as usual and the Towers provided brilliant entertainment as always. (And we continued only three).
Yesterday we stormed it with a five man team lvls 8, 7, 7, 7, 6 and we barely broke a sweat storming the Towers. Looked to me as the number of archers were cut in half or so and most were the 4 hp type-a-gobbo.
But if nothing in the spawns have been changed I have no explanation.
The party I was in yesterday hsd was insanely powerful yesterday imo. Its not the qeust getting easier its the players getting tougher imho. This qeust has the potential of becoming undoable by non "uber groups" if its changed too much.
Also me being level 4 at the time without ecl may have had an effect on the spawns.
Hmm, yes, but ain't the spawns supposed to grow nastier with a stronger party?
This was clearly not the case with my two visits of late.
Edit: Meaning the strong party only had to fight ½ to 3/4 the number of gobbos the weak party did.
The quest is mostly based upon facing a numerous force of weaker enemies. Especially the first adreneline filled raid. Eventually, you hit a level where those weaker enemies even in vast numbers just aren't a challenge.
The trick to balancing it though is that if you make those vast goblin hordes more difficult to cut through, then you make the quest very unbalanced for the lower levels.
Its also going to happen to most the EfU quests very soon I'm predicting. The server's most often done quests were balanced for parties with fairly poor gear and low levels.
Now nearly everyone when I log on is fifth through seventh level. So now things are much easier all around.
No, it's a cast of the tough enemies spawning less / not spawning at all.
It's should be the reverse effect with higher levels.
It's definitely true that in general our quests will feel easier and easier as people's gear and levels improve, and that's something I'll constantly be looking to adjust.
However, in this particular case I was informed that the harder goblin types were not spawning at all for some groups -- which is mysterious.
At any rate, I've pumped up the difficulty a good bit. Let me know if this quest gets to be either too hard or too easy.
Alright, it's still broke!!1 :?
Inside it was okay, but the outside Towers part is not working.
((March 7th)) An 8 man group with something like lvls 8, 8, 7, 7, 7, 7, 6, 6 Stormed the Fortress and as far as I could count we got 1 Archer by the Towers - 1!
The rest was the 4 hp gobbos that the great cleave fighters fought over to get to first.
No Assassins, no Stormtroopers, no Gladiators, no Enchanters, no Pyromancers, no Elites and 1 Archer with more than 4 hp.
Adjusted. Let me know if this is still the case of the next reset.
The only thing I can figure is that some of the encounter triggers are a bit elevated off the ground due to the elevated ramp and how the toolset places them.
Make sure that some form of goblins are spawning in all the correct places, at least.
Also, make sure not to have someone scout too far ahead without the rest of the party being in the area.
I guess if you call down the Thunder you should expect a lightning up your a**..
At any rate, the latest trip to the Goblin Fortress did not go so well.
The spawns at the towers worked fine. So fine in fact, that the Archers and Assassins killed 2 out of the 6 man party (And the number of Assassins might be a bit heavy).
The 4 survivors of the initial assault proceeded inside and were doing alright untill they got caught between Goblins from two sides.
The Goblins on the Screens are from where Ub fell only, the fact that most of them are in the big room is because the party, obviously overwelmed, attempted to draw back to safety.
Seeing as luring is no-no I believe we did "what we were supposed to" and we got creamed real bad by a multitude of Assassins and Stormtroopers. In fact, the only two that got out alive did so only because of Invisibility potions and hefty AC to survive the attacks of oppotunity from the swarm of lethal runts. So, my point is that at this particular place, the 4 of us had little or no chance of success, albeit being well prepared and buffed with DR and everything.
The Screens count 3 Assassins, 7 Stormtroopers, 4 Elites and one goblin and that is of course what remained after we took out as many as we could.
4 out of 6 went down, 4 raises were made. Most of them by Gabrielle being a real Paladin. :D
I wouldn't recommend doing this quest as it is unless you think yourself 2 c00l 4 School.
I tweaked things a bit, but honestly with a party with multiple level 8 characters you should be facing difficult spawns.
This quest has been tweaked yet again, and in its current incarnation I am reasonably happy with the balance. Large, high level parties will likely continue to spawn large numbers of creatures that can potentially be quite dangerous, but given the high reward (chances of unique loot, large gold payout, large XP payout) I think it close to being well balanced.
Hi all, I suggest putting more NPCs and posters around town directing the more powerful players to more powerful quests, where they can all die horribly and fix the high level situation. A few quests against some nasty underdarkish necro thingys should be ok..... The underdark has some awesome necro ghosty stuff...lots of nice instant death... 8)
havent even seen a bebilith... you'd think they be all over Sanctuary like sandcrabs on a dead seal.
