RPing powerouts, lost connections, etc.

Ok, this is a big problem for me because I live some ware that all we can get is "Brodcasted Internet" Aka: big satilite on roof that breaks often. And I often lose connection for a few hours. So, mid quest, i just disappear: "*Poof* 'Holy Cave-Rocks Batman, Sywyn was just sucked into the void!" How can i rp this when i often am the party lead and am off for a few hours before it goes back up? I need help here, as people are starting to try to RP this for me. (And not too well either, "Heard you were dementionally unstable")

Thanks for any help. -Hammerfist0

Don't RP it. It's an entirely OOC event.

Not to be contrary, but when the party leader vanishes, it most certainly is an IC event!

I usually try to use the campaign setting itself to play it off. It is very easy to get separated from your companions in the Underdark, so I just assume that missing party members "took a wrong turn somewhere and got lost."

If the person who gets logged out happens to also be the only member of the group who knows how to get to the destination, that's when things get really fun.

Just tell your party members your GF came in and decided to get frisky, so you had to ditch them. They'll understand, and probably swoon with respect and admiration! It's a much more elegant solution than trying to make up an IC excuse for a completely OOC event! If they don't believe you, give them a few juicy details in tells to keep things real. Remember: love solves all problems!

That was contrary. If you hadn't wanted to be contrary, you'ld have listened to the rational solution.

It makes no sense to make up IC excuses for OOC events.

I've seen people try and the results are often silly, sometimes bordering on dumb.

"Oh, John must have been teleported to another dimension."

"I got victimized by a Summon Adventurer Spell!"

"I got lost."

"I was there the whole time. Just in the back."

I think most people just ignore the fact someone disappeared, and at worst make believe the guy had to be somewhere else for something and never mention it again.

When I crash during some kind of quest, I'd hate people to try and RP it out in a way which is likely entirely inappropriate for my character. "Escaped the scene," or "Fled like a coward," or "Just remembered he has this important thing he forgot to take care of" really isn't the kind of thing I want to hear and it gets worse when the character IC gets engaged in a way like "Leaving us there to die, did you?" I mean. It can't be helped, so give each other a break. If your main warrior crashes during some hardcore quest and it doesn't seem like he'll get back and you insist on RPing it out, you can always pretend he never joined you in the first place and go: "Guess this was out of our league, guys. Come, let's go. Ain't worth dying over." Or just continue the quest without the dude.
