Set Trap skill and heavy armor

I've placed points into both Disable and Set Trap, and I have noticed that I take a serious penalty to my Set Trap skill while wearing heavy armor. Why is this? I am pretty sure this is the NWN default, and not something EfU specific. I can understand the argument that it becomes more difficult to set a trap while wearing heavy armor because you're less dexterous. However, if that is true wouldn't Disable Trap also take a serious penalty? It functions perfectly well, which is why at first I thought I hadn't placed points in Set Trap at all.

Could the Set Trap skill be modified to ignore armor and function like Disable Trap? Like I said, I can understand the "less dexterous" argument, but it seems silly that I have to remove my armor to set a trap, and then put it back on after I am done. Both Set and Disable Trap take a large penalty while in combat, and certainly I think this can be increased to take armor into consideration. However, when setting traps outside of combat it really doesn't make much sense considering the fact that I have (theoretically speaking) as much time as necessary to set the trap, and be as careful as possible while doing it.

here's an example why you should have to take your armor off.....

Have you ever worn mittens? Mittens have that big single finger thing that crams in all your fingers into one slot.

Now try and paint a model battleship with that mittened hand.....it's not as precise.

Wearing armor and trying to set parts and chemicals would be hindered in a similar way while wearing armor. It just doesn't bend the way it should or move the way it should when trying to do very precise movements. Same thing goes for if you're wearing a shield...that thing is doing to swing around and knock into shit as you try and set the trap.

Yes, but as I said Disarm Trap does not take a penalty, and it's a simple - if silly - thing to remove your armor to set a trap and then put it back on right after. I would think you would have more trouble disarming a trap while wearing armor than setting one.

Meldread ....I would think you would have more trouble disarming a trap while wearing armor than setting one.

I don't agree with that. See disabling a trap could be as simple as snipping a trip wire or knocking a vial of alchemists fire off a plate intended to fling it at you. Or hell, just crushing it with your foot.

Where as setting a trap requires delicate hands to tie that trip wire just so, or to set the vial down without spilling it.

It's quite the example of the saying "it's easier to destroy than to create", which seems to be where they got the logic from.

Also keep in mind, we're DISABLING the trap, not RECOVERING IT which has a much, much higher DC.

DJSpectre....has it!?

:D

Holy wowzahs...Metro. He may just indeed!

Set trap is dexterity, heavy armor eats up some of that.

Remove trap is intel.

Metro_Pack DJSpectre....has it!?
