The other night I dropped a DM tell of PvP soon. Nine sent me a who/what/ when/ where? to which I responded quickly; Near the shop of Thomas, velsharoonites.
The response came subdual or FD? To which I replied FD is likely for one, possibly subdual for the others. Nine said "that's a pretty flimsy excuse for FD".
I sat at my keyboard like 0.o...My question is simple, do our DMs trust veteran players to use FD when warranted, and subdual when it ought to be used?
My thinking here is, PvP was coming...how soon? Minutes likely. I don't have time to explain the full backstory while watching for the targets to show up. As in all PvP split second judgements are often needed, do you guys trust us to do the right thing?
The Readers Digest abridged version of the story is this: Banites tell Velsharoon guys to stop animating dead in lower. Harsh words exchange...death threats and threats of fates "far worse than death" are made. The two groups split. In the Last Stand, sounds of summoning are heard, and sure enough, the Velsharoon guys are in the room the sounds come from. A few more words are exchanged and they close the door. Bane listens at the door and overhears plans to go to the shop of Thomas. Bane decides to ambush. The scenario was 3 casters of unknown levels vs 3 fighter and fighter/rogues. Suprise may offset the strength of three casters, but who is to say. My thinking was one would likely die as a result of his "fates far worse than death" comments. I would have like to have seen them renounce their gods. So...subdual or FD? That is more a result of where the RP goes, no? I trust you guys to make sweeping server wide decision, do you trust me to make a who lives and who dies decision now and then? (Note: As a whole I prefer subdual to FD, we all work hard at our characters and I appreciate that. However, that said, there are just times, places, characters and scenarios that warrant FD...I truely beleive there is no other way sometimes.)
