Memoirs of a Banite

The 26th Day of Ches :: Year 152 :: 1374 DR

On this day I observed two recently freed slaves killing beetles in an attempt to make a living. They were disoriented and weak from the shackles of slavery, and were in no condition to kill bugs for a modest two coins to survive. I observed as they threw their bodies forth to destroy the vermin, only to fall on their knees and accept the role of prey. It was then I charged forth, slaying these bugs and empowering this man and lady with the healing touch of The Tyrant. I encouraged them to see within themselves the weakness they have kindled, and to rise from it and destroy all that is weak, so our progeny may never have to suffer.

No man nor lady should have to throw their lives down to survive in this "Sanctuary." Men and women who have failed to embrace power fall to the weakness that is Lower. What does our Council do about this? They fuel their greed with the newly found tolls. Where will this money go? To give freed slaves a second chance in this "Sanctuary"?

The 26th Day of Tarsakh :: Year 152 :: 1374 DR

I recall several tendays ago, I saw a new Watch Private stumbling about. It was clear he was disoriented and confused about his new role. He gave indications of weakness instead of standing strong like our protectors should.

I approached this man and insulted him. Insulted him, his mother, his job and everything about him. While he wasn't pleased, he did nothing more but kindly ask me to leave him alone. I persisted for a good ten or twenty minutes. It was then he decided to arrest me, to which I could only grin. Proud was the word that would describe how I felt toward this Private.

He exercised his authority, as our authorities should. He embraced the power he held, and exerted it on me rightfully. Power is the will of Bane. While I know he will probably never praise Bane, I am satisfied in knowing that he will unknowingly satisfy the Tyrant by not being so weak.

One of my goals is to strengthen the Watch. We are one small step closer to achieving that dream.

The 4th Day of Mirtul :: Year 152 :: 1374 DR

I may not be as loud as Porki Thule or Candidate "K", but as a "silent observer" I find this election the most despicable one our historians will document.

For the sake of our rich history, it is here I will document what I have offered our fellow man. May our future generations look back, and not look down at us as fools, but as men.

- Rohet Bathulin

Today I stand on a Sanctuary that is weak.

Our Watch stands fragmented. Our toll gate is broken, and complaints of a metal shortage is ever rising. Our children have resorted to selling papers in the streets instead of embracing a life of academic achievement in our non-existent schooling system. The Spellguard and the devout have left us to rot. The mercantile efforts are diminishing.

This next Council will require a set of five who are willing to make action. These men must be bold in their legislation, and assert their power.

Fellow citizens, by electing me into the Council, I promise you:

- An immediate solution to the metal shortage. - A stronger Watch. - A Council that will make Sanctuary proud. No longer will we endure embarrassment. - An incorporation with the Spellguard and the New Dunwarren. Slaves must stick together under the shackles of slavery. As ex-slaves, we must continue this practice. - Legislation for the children. We must teach our kids to empower themselves through an education.

Take on the Bathulin promise. Embrace an empowered Sanctuary.

- Rohet Bathulin, Council Candidate

My fellow candidates in the Council running have proven themselves despicable. Their focus is not on what they will offer you as Councilors. Their focus is on muckraking.

Accusations between our candidates range from basic insults between candidates "K" and Porki Thule, to a large variety of perverted jokes. It is apparent to me that these candidates are not serious about their running, and thus are unsuited for their position.

I dare question our more reputable runners. This last Council Term, minimal action has been taken. The School of War has been opened, and a bazaar stall has been sold. No action was made to attract the faithful of New Dunwarren back to what they should be calling home. No action was made to negotiate with the Spellguard. As reputable as our past Councilors may appear, their lack of action makes them just as regrettable as the ones who yell "Porki Fool" in the streets.

Fellow citizens, I am a man of action. I have a dream for this city. Under my guidance, the Old Sanctuary will be empowered. No longer will the Lower scum mock us. No longer will the Spellguard threaten us, and no longer will the New Dunwarren damn us.

Take on the power I offer. Take on the Bathulin promise.

- Rohet Bathulin, Council Candidate

Education is pivotal to empower our settlement. Today, our children are just as stupid as those beggar brats of Lower. The government offers us no solution to give our ever increasing youth direction and motivation.

I bring forth my proposal for a formal system of education in Sanctuary to be read by all.

- Our Orphanage will serve a dual purpose. Not only will it shelter our homeless youth, but it will teach. I have visited our Orphanage recently, only to find books that do not educate our children, but rather insult their lack of intelligence. Speeches of past Councilors will not teach a nine year old anything, let alone grasp their attention. What education the Orphanage has to offer today is unacceptable.

- Orphanage caretaker Ernestine Helthor does an embarrassing job in representing the state in matters of the youth. Never have I seen her read, teach or even feed the children. Kids bully one another, and we citizens have noticed this. Helthor will be fired and replaced with someone more motivated to raise the standards of our young.

- The Office of Education will be established and stationed within the Orphanage. It will be headed by a Principal who will work directly under the Council, with the teaching staff as the Principal's advisors. The Principal will be tasked with fine tuning the exact mechanisms of the school and for deriving the grade standards.

- The newly established school will have a grade system. All students will start at Grade 0 and will work up through Grade 16. To be promoted from one grade to another, the student will have to pass a promotionary test. Students will work at their own pace, and not be rushed to completion, although those who blatantly slack will face serious disciplinary action.

- School sessions will last for ten hours. A school holiday will be established every 12th day for the students to relax.

- Students are recommended to begin school at age five, and graduate at age 17. All children starting at age six will be required to attend, with few exception granted by the newly founded Office of Education.

- To fit the increased demand on the newly founded school, the Orphanage will be expanded. It is too small in its current state to house our needs. The Council will contract the Office of Engineering to satisfy this need.

It is under this system that a child will grow up not as a complete bogan, but as men and women who will outsmart even our most educated. The Office of Engineering will flourish with scholars, our Council candidates will continue to make us proud and the mechanisms of our government and society will run in perfect unison.

Other candidates say they are in favor of education, but what have they shown to prove these allegations? Under my guidance, our city will become great.

Embrace the power. Embrace the Bathulin promise.

- Rohet Bathulin, Council Candidate
