[sealed letter to Sir Valaron Sunnellar]

Good Knight of Sune,

I wish to share my concerns with you about the recent influx of clergy who actively and openly promote the faith of Bane the Black Handed. I am sure you have some knowledge of his teachings, but in my opinion this is the single greatest threat to the security of Sanctuary and the lawful rule of the Council and the Watch.

Though I now reside in New Dunwarren, my decision to do so is based more upon my duty to the Tyrran Church than my desire to separate myself from the welfare of those in Old Sanctuary. As a man of faith, I am sure you understand the clarion call of duty, and can respect the paradox that this places before me and all good men of the Triad.

I would urge that you monitor these faithful of Bane closely, and also be aware that a priestess Ayumi clearly informed me that her cults' plans involve Old Sanctuary only. They will attempt to subvert good and decent citizens, then expand their power base from their. Their very teachings demand that they will eventually overthrow the Council and dispose of the Watch, as there is no room for authority other than the clergy of Bane.

It is my fervent desire that you forward this to your superiors, as this is an open threat that needs to be monitored closely, and if need be dealt with as the highest treason against Sanctuary.

Here is a list of known Banites for you to be aware of:

Clergy - Imperitor Titus, Fathal a priestess, Ayumi a priestess

Supplicants - Kane (last name unknown) Sevastyan (last name unknown) and possibly a man named Murik Kross of Lower.

All but the last have openly proclaimed their faith. There are others I suspect, but will attempt to gain more information to be sure. If we know these, then be certain there are many more.

Your duty is quite clear in this matter. I will be in prayer for the next seven days in the Church of Tyr in ritual atonement of my sins. I will be available to be reached after this period.

Tormtar Geoffrey Wellington

Thank you for the information. Understand that, under the Dalelands' freedom of speech system that Sanctuary has adopted, these individuals are allowed to speak openly of what they believe. When they undertake criminal action in support of their faith, however, they will be held accountable for this. For the moment, they are simply a nascent threat that appears to be ineptly carrying out the teachings of the Black Hand.

Unless you have information that they have committed vile deeds in the name of their patron, then there is no cause or reason to act against them. I detest their presence, as I am certain you do-but they are also men and women, who may yet be shown the error of their ways. I suggest you work to do this. It will no doubt fail for most, if not all, but the more recruits that are prevented from joining their cause will translate into less bloodshed, when this cult eventually tips its hand. Before formal battle is joined, there is a time and a place for the exchange of dialogue. Now is that time. Make use of it, instead of continually seeking to incite open conflict. Perhaps you may save a soul from their teachings and, in so doing, save at least one man or woman from eternal corruption.
