Rothe Saving vice Hunting

Obviously with rothe meat being worth 40 gold a pop, these creatures usually are on the sharp end of the stick. But it occurred to me today, as I just realized the glory of animal empathy ;), that nature types ultimately lose out on this "cash crop".

Using that same animal empathy, is it possible to script something in which a person would be rewarded for bringing a rothe to a place of safety. Perhaps 40xp vice the gold.

I really don't know if it possible, but I think it would make for an interesting addition. Considering the lengths one might have to go to just go get a rothe somewhere safe.

I want a quest where I have to help the lost rothe herd get to the mating grounds.

or perhaps even getting paid more for "live" meat

Perhaps the fact that you can just roam about and, if you're lucky, meet a hunting party where you buff up from the shadows and kill them all getting some odd 1000 gp minimum per person you kill, excluding the worth of their consumables. Yeah. When you're a Druid, they call it roleplay. I call it an investment.

This is just wrong. So wrong!

Druids are meant to protect nature; it's part of a Druid's RP (in most cases) to protect the Rothe. Druids already have another quest made available to them for the time they have to spend outside the city which makes up for the 'not being able to get XP/GP from the Rothe!'

You know a Druid of Silvanus is more feared by hunters than a Druid of Malar, because they are extremists when it comes to the protection of nature. Their alignment even when not evil, doesn't mean they can't kill those who kill animals. Make people fear you in the wilds; give them the hurts when they decide to kill animals for the sake of killing animals / earning a 'honest' coin. If they continue their hunt for meat after the warning (or perhaps even a second) just kill them.

Grab the gold they made off killing the Rothe. He-ha. What's 40GP/Rothe compared to the RP/Fun/loot you just got?

So yeah. Not in favor of this. You can take the Rothe to a relatively unpopulated area regardless of the XP you'd get for it; and leave the poor animals who generally eat Rothe as their main suppliment of food to survive to starve, or you can find alternative ways to keep people from hunting them.

If it's a druids job to protect nature shouldn't they also be protecting the Intelligent creatures as well after all arn't they a part of nature.

In fact i would say it's not the druids job to protect the rothe but rather to protect the balance of Nature, if there are too many rothes and not enough predators then they will destroy thier own ecosystem and be just as damaging as adventures who over hunt them.

In fact if i where playing a druid i would play him by going with the law of the jungle. You kill to eat or stop yourself from being eaten.

A little off topic but i felt it had to be said

It's a supposedly well known druidic fact that the rothe population is being slowly hunted to extinction by the influx of new predators, and unnatural predators- Humans and Drow, for example. If humans kill and eat the rothe, then the natural predators can't, and so they die.

Humans are not a part of the natural balance of the Underdark. All they need to do is grow extra eyes and we can safely label them aberrant. <_<
