Hi guys,
I've noticed you've tweaked the mining stuff somewhat and that's great.
However, the amount of time it takes to break a rock for the new treasure drops seems a bit too much. Pover [dwyna] & I spent over an hour breaking 4 rocks in real time to get 8 gp and 1 amethyst.
Could you please reduce the amount of damage required to break the rocks by about 30%.
Or if that doesn't suit with you, make the front rocks easy and treasure drops as in none or tiny and then as you progressively go deeper into the mine it gets harder and greater value minerals, gems etc you may find as you tunnel deeper in.
I would also suggest that as you tunnel right down into the depths [that is assuming that the rocks are a bit easier to break], then there will be a chance of a monster [umberhulk, Xorn, earth elemental etc] attacking but also that's where the real goodies lurk [mithril, diamonds, emeralds, rubies etc]
Aside from that, everything else is fine.
Thanks again

Tweaking the rocks so that it takes longer to break them is intended, elsewise we'd not have bothered changing it to be like that. Just so it is perfectly clear, we will not be adding any extra treasure drops; mining on EFU is intended to be an RP device, not a farmable source of income.

I wasn't specifically asking for treasure drops Caddies, you missed what I was trying to get at completely.
If tweaking the rocks was the intention then it makes mining a very real [and I do mean real] time consumer then it will have the effect of that is players will not be interested in bashing away for hours on end. They will spam scripted quests instead.
This is disapointing as again it limits what could be quite a fun and worth while role playing activity that can involve more than just dwarves. It seems that an interesting role playing opportunity is being missed here and I feel that this is a shame.
I agree that you shouldn't have a free ride however it's been made into something tedious and that it's hardly worth doing. It still will take quite a while with a reduction of the amount of damage the rock can take to break it up to see if there is anything in it. The PC will still suffer the effects of fatigue. And, as I mentioned, if allowed to tunnel deeper, then there is a chance of disturbing something nasty the deeper you go. All of these things are good for the game.
You can tweak the treasure drops to give out nothing or tiny things IE; chips gems, small amounts of raw iron, whatever?
It's a quid pro quo situation: less effort [time] to break rocks for much smaller [if any?] rewards.
I urge you to reconsider as this is something that, as a faction, the dwarves are trying to get behind.
Please don't view this as simply a grab for loot.

The rocks haven't been tweaked; I simply corrected their fatigue message. It's not easy wording the output you receive because there's more than one thing being timed and measured.
The treasure system has the possibility (however, unlikely) to dispense a large number of diamonds; it might also give out only crystal shards. It's more like gambling, which is what you're doing (gambling time) when you're blindly hewing away at rock. And it's very old, very solid rock. I've already more than halved the hardness and hitpoints of the rocks once, and I'm probably not going to update them all again.

I appreciate the time taken to tweak the fatigue system and rejigging the treasure drops.
If the rocks HP's have been halved then that is what we will have to live with. I understand it would have been time consuming to go over all those rocks in the mine and re do the HP's on each one.
You see I don't know how the tool set works nor understand what is required to manipulate it. I just play the game but I appreciate the time you guys, as DM's, spend fiddling with the module for the servers benefit.
Thanks for what you've done & for listening. :D

Perhaps this is an indication (again) that a particular area may not be suitable to mine anything decent out of.

Yep, that's how I'm playing it Begger :D
see my extra IC letter to Hosfryd Reev explaining it.
Just as an aside, grew up in a mining town [Port Hedland, West Australia - iron ore is the main product], I studied geology in highschool, am an amateur rock hound in my spare time& I did work in the mining industry [Mt. Newman Mining before it become BHP] after I left high-school for 3 years.
Also, my best friend is a mining geologist [exploration] and now I live in Kununurra which is only 125 km from probably one of the world best & richest diamond mines, Argyle Diamonds.
http://www.argylediamonds.com.au/
In regards to mining diamonds, they are mostly found in igneous deposits[old volcanic pipes] and the rock they are in [Kimberlite or the even harder lampresite] is almost as hard as the diamonds themselves. The only other source of diamonds is alluvial deposists like river beds or ancient sea bedsas seen in the movie "Blood Diamond".
Anyway, this sort of goes to explaining a bit of my little obsession with mining & dwarves :D
Ok, time to go exploring in the Underdark for new ore bodies
