- Letter To Reev -

Councilor Reev,

since you've been asking about information on Jake the Whisker I am assuming you are attempting to make a bid for the surface. I only knew Jake in passing however I believe he made it but I'm only being hopeful here as I have no hard evidence to support this belief.

If you are going to attempt this, then good luck with that.

I would though ask that before you go, and as a final act as councilor, you please ratify Clan Stoutheart's claim over the mine we are digging in right now that is in the ruins of Dunwarren.

Stouts,

That will depend on what you've been mining. If its iron or copper ore, then obviously, we'll be asking for some of it, if not most of it. We have a steel shortage, in case you didn't notice.

Mr Reev,

so far we've pulled a few pretty stones.

However, on further test digs, a small vein of gold was discovered, and a nodule of adamite have been pulled from the mine. So, it's still early days and it's back breaking work let me tell you.

I am hopeful that we can get better colour out of the mine but it will not be easy.

Also, if we do find ore that is of decent enough quantity and quality to warrant mining, then we will want compensation for our efforts to dig it out. If not then it's hardly worth our time to dig is it? We'd be no better off than slaves working for nothing.

An update:

on further mining it's proved that this mine has no commercial viable ore bodies within. It has the odd pocket of low quality gemstones and perhaps a sliver of gold here and there.

The surrounding rock is very old and hard, a lot of granite, dolomites, gneiss, lampresite & quartz. This are very hard rocks and take a great deal of work to get through. If there was a large enough vein or ore body, then this would be worth investing the time and effort to extract however from test digs it appears that isn't the case.

So it is with regret that I report to you councilor that the mine will not be able to produce the quantities of iron or copper that this city requires. It is a hobby mine, suitible for prospectors and fossicors, people who enjoy the activity of mining but not for commercial gain as what they will find will be small and often nothing at all.

We would still like the title over the mine as it is a cultural activity us dwarves like to engage in on occasion.

Yours sincerley
