Hello and erm, goodbye?

hello everyone, ill get straight to the point in saying ill likely not be on EfU much since i have generally got bored of it. Perhaps that is a bad thing to say considering the quality of the server and its player base is incredible. However for some reason the things that drew me into the world we call the underdark has evaporated, as has my enthusiasm to play NWN for the long periods of time that i used to play. I might pop back in every so often but for the moment i dont feel that i can play with any real standard of RP expected on the server. (lets face it im not the best roleplayer on the server  )

still, laters everyone!

Come back and visit soon! I always enjoyed the times we went into the Sand Caverns together. Even if they were deadly!

Mate,

I have seen no-one play harmonica like Ian Shargen. I have met no half-elven orcs ever anywhere on any server. How cool is that? I feel like i have hardly scratched the surface of who Ian is. Always a bit of a mystery. No-one gets under Riappi's skin like Ian Shargen (except perhaps Sarah Frumdottie).

My favourite Ian Shargen moment so far:

Story: Outside the Town Hall. Ian Shargen asks Riappi if he would like to hear him play the harmonica? Riappi answers with something like, "Of course not Pinky." So Ian proceeds to play a tune on his harmonica [ooc: Ian rolls a -1 on his perform roll check] Ian doesn't play very well at all. Kepler claps though.

Riappi's reaction at the end of it? "Tha' sounded lih' a pack 'a' goblins durin' matin' season."

Ian laughs. Kepler asks Ian to play again..

The story continues...

What happened to the Ian Shargen Showcase Performance Extravaganza? Did I miss it? Sounded like you had quite a few people lined up. At least Vanya thought so.

Great character Ian Shargen is! Congrats on a fantastic job.. Drop in and say hi sometime. Kepler will probably ask you for a guest tour of Archibald Estate from top to bottom. ;) Just curious.. that's all.. :D

You've met no other half-elven orcs because they cannot exist.

I'm sorry to see you go, though, Ian! Ian Shargen was an immensely entertaining, enjoyable, and exciting character, and I will miss the opportunity to see him cruising through Sanctuary, creating incredible avenues of new RP that I'd rarely, if ever, seen displayed before. You were amazing to play with, and I wish you all the best in life. Whatever comes for you, I know you'll be well able to excel!

Rock on, my friend.

Gona miss you lots! I had great rping with you.. :( Sad to hear this.. But I guess we gona bump into each other other ways! =) Take care! Also yepp only Sarah.. *grins*

Sorry to see you go, sorry I didn't see you IG Archibald Faction rules! Cheers!

When I found out in-game about Ian's heritage.. I dont think the whole union between Ian's parents was a consensual thing at all. That made sense to me. Orcs basically tore an elven village to pieces from what I could gather and left Ian's elven mother and a few survivors in ruins, physically and mentally. I think the idea is sound RP. That is why it is unique.

And I totally agree with the way Ian Shargen opens up new avenues of Rp.. Awesome character. Come back Ian. I will pay to hear your harmonica playing.

I think what starryice was getting at is that the consensensuality was not in question. More in that the orc could go as nuts as he liked, but no conception would take place.

Cluckyx I think what starryice was getting at is that the consensensuality was not in question. More in that the orc could go as nuts as he liked, but no conception would take place.

This was a problem i discovered with my concept after i had had him a long time although i was intrigued by the thought of a half orc/elf after seeing a half orc/drow heritage PC IG a while back.

Also i dont see why orcs and elves cant get it on and have children...you have orc/humans and human/elf so why not orc/elf? Is the pysiology so different that it couldn't possibly happen?

Any how my i cant change this character now so i guess he will just have to be the anomally in the gene pool...

P.S i wont be away forever, just till i have built up the enthusasm to play again...(which may be a while) I also apologise for any spelling mistakes, im terrible.. :(

Orcs and elves simply do not mix in that manner. The races are separated enough, and different enough in nature, that conception is impossible. Orcs are inherently evil, elves are inherently good. Elves are considered blessed by, and close to, the Seldarine that created them. Humans are an in-between mix in terms of nature between the two, and as such, conception between orcs/elves and humans is possible, but not between orcs and elves.

Our modern understanding of genetics doesn't really play into Faerunian races overly much, but I suppose you can also assume there are genetic barriers that prevent such unions between orcs and elves.

well my half elf is completely stuffed then :(

There is an exception to every rule.

Meet Ian.

Berosion is right.

Meet Ian.

As far as Faerun genetics, and the birth of elves, I suppose the issue with Ian's half-orc/elf conception is whether or not the Seldarine Gods (forgive me, I'm guessing that there are Seldarine Gods that still assist in the birthing of pure elven folk.... or even half-elven folk :?: ) assisted his elven mother at the time of his birth?

Speculation: What is a half-orc, half of? Human? In every case? Perhaps the over-god Ao decided to push for Ian's birth between two diametrically opposed races, under extraordinary circumstances, so that we could have this debate

EfU has numerous anomolies and strange non-canonical races (I imagine). Mysteries abound. Ian is one of them. :D Cool!

Sorry, they don't.

I'm not trying to diss Ian, whom I think was a great character, and who I loved playing with. SaRF summed up the situation, though, just for future reference. There are a lot of exceptions to rules, and a lot of non-canon aspects to EfU- this is true. Until a DM explicitly states that half-orc/half-elves can exist in EfU, however, I'm going to assume that the canon rule stands.

At any rate, bye, Ian, and we'll miss you! Have fun in whatever you do.

They really can't!

Take it easy, and enjoy the summer. :)

Just out of curiosty which D&D rule book is it that states that Orcs and Elves are incompatible?

Most of the ones i have are Ambigious on that subject which i believe is intentional as to allow DM's to make that decision.

Ya know what yer problem is pinka? Ya got sucked inta that stoopid guard job with tha fara and stopped rememberin' tha kinda fun we used ta 'ave togetha. Ya big baba. *flicks a bugger at Ian* ;-)

Good luck. Come back soon bro.

I'm shocked to read what you've written about yourself, Ian. In my opinion (for what that's worth), Ian was a well played character and you also are a good player. The half-orc was believable, was involved in the server and was consistantly in character. Being bored, understandable. But if you think you're a bad player, you're just flat wrong. I mean, just look at Calculor! And they even made him a DM! I merely jest, Snuggulor.

On the genetic plausibility/possibility argument, mind that's just a minor mistake, not a big deal.

Olavo and Perin will miss you alot Pinky!

Come back when you fell ready and desperate for some action and nice RP like those we had in Last Stand with Ian, Riappi Sarah and Perin Rainkill.

Cheers mate!

Ian was great to be around, you could see all he wanted to do was make friends and have fun.

Take it easy man.

I'd like to add, that in no way were you a bad roleplayer. In fact, I enjoyed interacting immensely with you whenever we crossed paths. Your style of play was different, but in no way the wrong kind. You were interested in meeting people, having fun, and making friends, IC and OOC while you were here. Something that NWN has always been about. If you ever choose to return, which I truly hope you will, you'll realise that you're well liked and will always have people to play and hang with.

Peace out, my brother.

Ian:

Just so ya know, your Pinky bloodline concept still seems to have some spice to it, I found this written by Mr. Cheez-It, while I was researching a half-orc character concept of my own. At the risk of sounding like a dead horse being flogged by a dead horse, inside a chinese puzzle box, wrapped in an enigma.... here we go. (Unless its out of date or wrong information):

Mr. Cheez-It wrote about Half-Orcs :

Half-orcs are fairly common throughout Faerun. They have no true homeland to call their own and as a result most spend their lives wandering the world in search of a purpose. Half-orcs are invariably the product of a human and an orc, but stories are told of half-orcs carrying the blood of dwarves, goblins, hobgoblins, and even halflings, gnomes and elves. Orcs are the fecund race, and such stories likely have some genesis in truth.

Come back and play, Pinky!

Half Machine, Half Orc.

All watch. Roboorc.....

(thinks of a new concept)

Pinky rules, end of Story, COME BACK!

Orc's and elves are definatly compatable

Have I ever told you of two NPC's I once had? Romiorc and Julielf?

everyone get bored now and then or hits a point where they have no drive left in thier character...

Take a hiatus.. go play some action shooter or something for a while..

god forbid some other online RPG...I recommend WoW.... now before you all go ballistic at me for suggesting that , hear me out..

go and play WoW for a while and you'll soon realize how much NWN eclipses every single so called RPG out there in terms of actual RPing.

now it's all well and good for me (and everyone else on this server ) to tell you this, but i truely believe its one of those lessons in life that you have to learn for yourself..

so go explore other choices and then comeback in a week, a month , a year, however long it takes, and tell me if I'm right or wrong!

**edit for broken spacebar**

Well, after a few months break, i have decided that i may return as a different character. Although i still feel jaded after the last time many months back when i played on EFU my friend has persuaded me to return. I hope that i will get back my enthusiasm that i used to have for EFU when the server is fully up and running.

I did what you said turbospew...i went and played the game guildwars(but not WoW since im too cheap for that  ) for an..hour and a half...now let us never speak of it again  ...

(P.s. bare with me, my Rp is gonna be rusty, i haven't done much since my self induced exile)

Welcome back! Hope things work out for you here.
