Two questions

Do we get an exp hit when our Death Avatars die?

What Purpose does the Avatar of Contagion serve?

A summoned "death avatar" is just that, a summons. Not a long time friend and ally, he's there to do your bidding as a service to the God you serve as a cleric. No XP hit.

Each death avatar is renamed for the God you choose, and represents that particular dogma of that particular diety. An example would be that a halfling cleric of Urogalan gets a Hound avatar, representing that aspect of the diety you serve and that particular aspect of the death domain.

Manicac man Hit it, but I want to know "Why" it's called a contagion avatar when its presense heralds....nothing.

As Beggar said, what sort of Avatar you summon is dependent on whom your deity is. This is so we don't have any inconsistencies, such as deities like Kelemvor summoning undead creatures. And, yes, EFU's Death Avatar replaces the base Death Domain summon.

Mechanically, I belive there are some differences in the Avatars. But, these are best discovered in-game.
