The Playability of a Sadistic Killer?

Ive been thinking about a new characture development, and with all that is going on, i thought i would try an evil alighned one, rather then my normal good/neutral.

I finally thought that i try to make some sort of Sadistic Killer.

Now here, is where i would need minor help in clearing the sadistic part.

Example: The Killer, is partying with a few strangers, people he cares little for, people he see's merely as another way to keep his thirst for blood and pain at bay, while they slay a few gnolls.

A member of the party falls into minus health and dies, and after a short stay in the fugue plane, his soul returns to his Body.

Now, this is where the question comes into it.

The killer, noticing his "comrades" slight splutter of life, tells the rest of the party to go on ahead, while he uses his healing supplies on him. The party goes off leaving Him and the victim alone.

The killer bends down, and slowly, puts his hand onto the mouth of the victim, pressing hard, slowly suffocating him. In the killers eye's the wounded man is weak, he is now dead wieght. He can now feel the light of the mans life put out, by his own grip.

Later on he catches up to the party, and explains that the wound was to dire for him to treat, and the "comrade" passed on.

Would this fill the role of the sadistic killer. Would this be able to RP out?

Example two: The sadistic side of the killer, is that he wants his "art" to be known by all the residents of upper and lower.

His victims would be mutilated and left on the streets of lower, and in upper for all to find, spreading panic and fear amongst the people.

While all the time, he sat in the crone, siping on some cheap wine?

Again the question is, could this be played out?

All comments are welcome

Anything is playable if you put your mind to it, go ahead.

I do not think there's an official policy, but I personally dislike taking advantage of quest deaths in such a way, mostly because the character in question rarely "dies" but is instead just knocked out (there are other reasons as well). I would be very disappointed with the other player if I was a victim to such an act. Not only is it not already fairly easy to kill somebody, it's often better not to because it has so much more RP potential than just killing.

2 > 1.

2 > 1

While it isn't mandatory, the trick with PvP is to make the death enjoyable for another player. What would be more fun for both you and the other player, ambushing and killing him without any RP or carefully luring him into a trap where you beat him up and go through an elaborate sacrifice to whatever deity your pc worships? Even better, why not work to undermine the person you're going to ambush so that he'll be more likely to accept the evil god in question, even on his death-bed? I'm pretty sure the DMs will give some xp for giving another pc a fun and meaningful death.

So, the general agreement so far falls under example two, which i do agree much more easier on both parties, myself and victim/rp

But still, more suggestions and comments welcomed

It is extremely frowned upon to kill another player in a quest area. There are several reasons for this, but the main one is that no one can ever go back and recover the body. Other than that, as long as you follow the server rules regarding PvP, and you try to make it fun for everyone, playing a sadistic killer can be tons-'o-fun.

As previously stated, we prefer PvP to take place outside of Quest Areas. But, as with most things, message a DM beforehand. Not all situations are frowned upon.

As someone who's been victim of Example 1 before, I must say that, while it may make sense, it can be extraordinarily dissastifying for the player of the victim, and something I find somewhat distasteful.

Example 2 seems probable, if not simply difficult to pull off IG.

Do not do 1.

I find it fun for my evil guys to lure players into an ambush in the sewers kill the fellow while intoning the name Yurtrus, and the priest of Gruumsh intoning well, "GRUUMSH!" Basically it gets to the point in which you -fail- to kill the fellows and the entire town is after your ass. --Hides in the sewers--

Basically, its fun as long as you make it fun for the other player

From what I see is that you have to 'earn' the right to FD someone... if you make it interesting like sending warnings and poetry/enigmas like the bone collector to the Watch and the victim prior to the assassination, it can become -really- flavorful - but you gotta give the victim at least a sense of 'control' over what can happen, and not just gimp them out of the blue.

Thank you all for the replies, and they have been dearly noted

Yes, do note the last part of Mort's post. That is extremely important.

Okay, well, in all my time playing various servers, I spent the majority of my time playing sadistic bastards. (My most famous being Virgil Aseph, Banite tortureman.) In my experience, the most fun sadistic bizzatches to play like to mess with the heads of everyone around them, not necessarily causing physical harm, although that can be thrown into the mix rather nicely if done appropriately. My basic structure for that sort of character is to be extremly nice outwardly. This way, when his victims bodies start piling up, no one suspects him. Now, if you do end up killing a weak character that is of a low level. (Say 3, for easy of argument) I'd say you made a bit of a mistake for this particular server. Execution of a higher level character is not as apt to really piss that player off, and the DMs won't frown on it so much. If you play the head games as well, your character can even get people to kill eachother without so much as spilling a drop of blood on his part. Which makes no one suspect him and he still causes an apt amount of blood shed. Another nice aspect of such a character is that , through RP and IC action, you can get PCs to act in one way or another without making a million persuade rolls. (At least, that's how it went down on the server I played recently. If you want to make persuade rolls all the time, go ahead. Often however, using RP to persuade people is more fun than a roll, even if a roll needs to be done after all the talking.)

Well, that's my two cents. I know I'm a n00b here and all, but, after consistently playing sadistic crazies that would make Hannibal Lector drop a load in his pants, the above stylistics for a mind bender of a person seems to ME at least, to be the most fun.

Hope it helps, have fun with your crazy, however he turns out.
