Portal to the Surface Quest

After the so-maniest time a group has slain the Shady Character that offered you access to the portal, I believe it may be better to just remove him altogether. He offers little to add to the quest, and it is weird for continuinity. We can easely do the quest without his presence, and perhaps it would be better if Mrs. Cole's son just wandered off into a portal he found by accident. Mrs. Cole, of course, would tell you that he wanted to go in, and hadn't returned, instead of the so-maniest scam the guy pulled.

You're talking about continuity....yet, if you repeat the quest, where's the continuity? Mrs. Cole has a thousand sons, but there can't be a thousand shady characters?

There is a certain suspension of disbelief involved in repeating a quest at all; I don't see the logic behind this suggestion. The guy is also I believe very useful in giving players a clue about the actual nature of the portal, without him the quest loses the dimension of a "venus flytrap" and just becomes a "pit for the unwary".

Perhaps, instead he can simply respawn each time the quest is taken.

It is fun to get vengeance on him when you do the quest for the first time, I liked it.

I think for the new player's sake, he should stay- You can always make it interesting.

I remember Wern8's guy turning on us for attacking him, and saying we were immoral and shit <_<

Encircling him with a bunch of characters having steel drawn and literally executing him was fun. But I suppose it would turn out pretty tedious if done over and over. Not to mention depriving the next party of some fun connected with that quest.

Now that the faction issue seems resolved, I like the quest the way it is.

Doing any quest over and over is boring.

What's different about this quest to, say, killing Tharzusk the poisoner over and over again?

I like the portal quest the way it is. If you're really bored of a quest, ask for a DM to spice it up for you.

ok what where you thinking when you typed this i mean after all its just a sign infront of the damn house that says portal to the surface on a sign infront of it lets just walk into it without suspecting that its most likely a friggen trap. but on the otherhand its extreamly reasonable not to suspect anything if your charter has 6-8 intelligence and an 8 wisdom to go with it.
