Portrait packs.

Title says it all. Do we want to include custom portrait packs for download on the server? I know we have limited bandwidth and space.

The total size for all of CoA's portrait packs is slightly under 120MB and it's not really proper netiquette to forward our players to the CoA website and leech the files from there. Also there are custom portraits there done by CoA players and I'd hate 'steal'. What I -could- do is pick choice portraits, perhaps the really nice ones and commonly used ones (based on player selections on CoA) and compile a smaller portrait pack for this server.

What say the rest of you?

P/s - Finally, a use for all those drow portraits!

You could use the Vault to host them and just link from the site.

Currently, at first glance, I'll remove all the Anime and Manga portraits and those really low quality (blurry/horribly edited/cheesy) portraits. The IWD and BG portraits are definately in.

Edit: Also, I'm aware some of you have custom portraits that aren't in the CoA packs. I wouldn't mind having them and adding them into our compilation.

If we are going to have portrait packs, I'd like to see them done right. By "right" I mean naming them to the proper naming conventions so that female portraits come up under females, elves come up as elves, etc.

Hmm. I could try and and do that. I'll get to work on it.

Thrawn If we are going to have portrait packs, I'd like to see them done right.

As far as content goes, I'd like to see:

* female portraits that don't irritate female players

* a comparable number of male portraits

It's craziness, I know.

Howland

I want more ugly characters. Unhappy, scarred, whipped, desperate looking men and women.

You heard the boss. Assignment for the rest of you:

Find me some GOOD QUALITY portraits for the pack.

I won't be renaming any existing portraits I've taken from the CoA packs so those who have them can easily install our packs, just overwrite those that are duplicated.

Also, if you have a custom portrait you'll be using for your first concept, send them my way.

Guidelines will be:

No titty/boobie/soft porn portraits. No 'anime' or 'manga' portraits. Try to make sure they're high resolution (not blurry and pixelated) Refrain from using cheesy portraits that don't suit the setting.

Make your own portraits: http://nwn.bioware.com/builders/portraits.html

Send all portraits to: colin.efu@gmail.com.

Edit: To those sending in normal portraits (not for your concept), try to find those with good, clear headshots, and less full body shots (though this only applies to the 'party' list portrait image). Thank you. :)

Forget this link. To anyone who downloaded from it and got corrupted files, that crashed your game, I appologize.

I've spoken with Thrawn about this, but I may be able to drum up some art for portraits. I have some vacation time coming up and planned on doing a lot of drawing. I'll see what I can do.

Thrawn If we are going to have portrait packs, I'd like to see them done right. By "right" I mean naming them to the proper naming conventions so that female portraits come up under females, elves come up as elves, etc.

To actually get that effect, you'd need a portrait.2da ovverride.

And renaming causes duped portraits and junk like crazy, which rapidly begins to eliminatet he point of making a pack in the first place.

Alright, here are a couple that I thought were good.

I did some portrait work for Alstromeria and Meltdown, if they are nice maybe they will make it into a EfU portrait pack

I've been out of touch with M:TG for years now. So I'm not familiar with, nor can I remember, any of the illustrations taken from there. :?

I don't know if these portraits are familiar already, but I found that there are some nice ones in here (though also some that are not so good).

Those with the CoA packs need only to download the first pack which contains about 50 new portraits. Portrait packs 2, 3 and 4 are filtered CoA pack portraits (no porn, no manga, no dupes, etc.) mostly for new players who don't have the CoA packs.

Thank you to those who sent in and suggested portraits. Also thanks to the hardworking people who compiled the CoA packs in which I stole from. :P

I'll add more packs up with new portraits once I collect them. As usual, send in custom portraits and/or character concept portraits you'd like to have so I can put them into the next pack. Remember to follow the guidelines!

No titty/boobie/soft porn portraits. No 'anime' or 'manga' portraits. Try to make sure they're high resolution (not blurry and pixelated) Refrain from sending 'cartoony' or poorly illustrated/photoshopped portraits.

Send them to colin.efu@gmail.com

Thank you for the work you've done to create and post these portrait packs, colinpoh.

Yeah! They look nice. :)

Much thanks. In the little experience I've had with portraits I know that it can be a hassle to do these things. Again, thanks for the portraits, I'm sure we'll all find great use for them

It has come to my attention that some portraits turn up blank and/or are upside down ingame. I never had a chance to troubleshoot -all- the portraits, so if any of you cound help me pin down which portraits are bugged, just inform me and I'll get to fixing them.

I don't like releasing shoddy work. I feel horrible. :P

Portrait pack fixed. Download the first port pack again and overwrite existing portraits. Also, remove f_hmagedruid030 for the filename is too long and turns up a blank white portrait in NWN. I've already renamed it in the updated pack, so it'll show as normal.

Yes, it's crazy. Most of the female portraits are done by male artists. God knows most of those rogue chicks must get severe Dex penalties due to the obvious lack of balance inherent to their forms...

On a side note, the portrait pack looks pretty good.

- Kiaring

Yes some correctly proportioned women would be something new to see...

EftU's custom port pack (portrait pack 1) has only ONE cleavage shots in the female portraits and mostly consist of head cropped portraits. Even then, all boobies are below "C" cup (I think).

:P

Oh, just a reminder to send in portrait suggestions to me (colin.efu@gmail.com) so I can start compiling the next pack.

Cheers.

I'll draw you a custom port for sexual favours.

I won't, but I still accept sexual favours.

.. Erh.. well I say yay for more variaty!

Efu_Darkness2 is right, this pack has some really nice portraits, particularly for drow and dwarf boyz.

Yeah there nice, lots of Drow port's, pretty nice ones too :P

Downloaded and reviewed. New Port Pack will be up in a bit.

I'd appreciate it if you guys would post portrait suggestions HERE on this thread, and not make new ones. Don't want to clutter up the forums.

Cheers!

Also colin, stick the link to the portraits on the first post as an edit section so we dont have to sift the topic to find it :)

Some people were telling me they can't see my portrait so I'll link it here just incase you don't have it. I'm sure it was in a portrait pack. hmm

If anyone wants to check, its ps_hu_f_030 here is a link to download the image files in a zip file.

I'll just show you what it looks like in a jpeg but note, this isnt an image file for the portrait. I've converted it.

That portrait is available in Port Pack 4.

How's about an optional downloads section on the website with a link to the portrait packs?

I think that lady has a gun in her pants

Yep.

Looks like a magic wand to me.

Guns exist in D&D I believe. Gnomes have invented Muskets and other weaponary that rely on gunpowder. But we're getting off-topic, so I'm sorry :)

Those are expansion rules, but can't you just picture all the tool belts and such I have her carry now :)

cawila I think that lady has a gun in her pants

She's just happy to see you.

SideKick How's about an optional downloads section on the website with a link to the portrait packs?

Link to portraits are on the main efu website page. But yeah, I'll add a 'downloads' section.

Portrait Pack 5 currently only has 13 male and 5 female portraits. Keep sending them in boys and girls.

There are some portraits in here for current active concept characters, so I'm trying to launch this baby soon for the benefit of out players using these customs.

Hello all. I just stumbled upon your website today(actually found the mod first but havent actually got to login and play yet) and have found it very interesting and plan on reading more and possibly playing on it someday soon as well. I am currently a part of the growing process of the PW http://199.222.161.231/menzoberranzan/ where I am on the building team/NPC team/ and do the custom portraits for us. I have two portrait packs available on the vault that are filled with many many drow portraits. I'll provide the link here if you guys want to check it out.

Cheers mate!

Thanks for sharing your portraits. I'll have a look at them when I am able to.

For further clarification, that is where my current character's portrait is residing, for any and all who are interested.

I am looking for Kobold pictures. I can't find any on www.nwvault.com, and I do not know how to extract them from NWN to convert them into portraits. Either NWN or random-artist Kobold pictures would be greatly appreciated.

(Maybe put Goblin+ Kobold pictures both up, since their subraces have just been launched. Thanks in advance.)

I'm fairly certain there are a few portrait packs around with all the creature portraits. Aside from that, I /think/ there might be an override that simply allows you to choose them directly, but I'm far from certain on that point.

Actually its not all that hard to get an individual portrait of an npc for use with a player.

Here's how to do it on windows xp.

First go to your neverwinter nights folder then click on the NWN folder whic lies within it. Find the zip file known as 2dasource. In windows xp this should open the zip without actually unzipping it.

Make a copy of the file "portraits.2da". Open that file like as if it were a txt file.

Once in you should see a large amount of text and numbers all catagorized. You will need to reference the NWN toolset to find out exactly which portrait you need (as they are all wierd letters seperated with "_"

Add the next number to the bottem of the list. For example if the first number was say 1254 the line you type would start with 1255.

Then copy and paste the details of the portrait your looking for (all except its number in the list) and then modify the integers to match that of one of the generic protraits for example the book which burns is made available to both genders and all races.

Then save the file and copy and paste it into your overrides folder. This will allow you to choose that portrait without ruining kobolds portrait on your side and peope should be able to see that you are using the kobold portrait. (it works almost exactly the same as the soundsets.2da)

I'm sorry its alittle complicated but simplifying it would fry my brain.

Naga Actually its not all that hard to get an individual portrait of an npc for us.... bla bla bla

I'm sorry its alittle complicated but simplifying it would fry my brain.

Just download this: http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Other.Detail&id=248

And look for the portrait in the 2da file.

OR, get this 2da override that'll unlock all NPC ports.

http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Other.Detail&id=766

Colin, I love you. Thanks a million.

And thanks for the try Naga. You're great too.

Gah finally a link to that I've ben doing that same complicated procedure everytime I wanted an npc portrait XD.

Colinpoh's portrait link, even though I love it, gives a hell of a lot of blank portraits; Does anyone know what causes that, and what I can do about it?

IF it really is highly desired I could create a new portrait.2da with all of the npc portraits available or just the ones that are suited to EFU. But thats only if alotta pople would use it.

Coldburn Colinpoh's portrait link, even though I love it, gives a hell of a lot of blank portraits; Does anyone know what causes that, and what I can do about it?

The cause of that is:

A bug that creates 'blank white portraits' in the portrait selection screen. These do not interfere with the game and I think they are caused if this tries to overwrite any custom portraits.

Worry not though, I'm planning on extracting the NPC ports and compiling them for the next portrait pack. I'll also be looking for kobolds and goblin portraits. Just wait a month until I get my new PC so I can get back to work.

http://chronarda.ru/martin/pic/gal-09.php

Maybe someone would like to make some portraits of those, noticing several ASOIAF fans among the community members?

The blank white portraits isn't really a bug. >_>

Whoever edited the 2da included/changed variables that render portrait slots invalid or adds invalid ones.

Like if you have NWN registering portraits A-Z and all of a sudden you have a few A.5s or WWs, things go bonkers!

If white portraits are truly bothersome, there are serveral altered 2da files available at the vault. You can check through them until you find one that suits your needs. :D

Wasn't sure where a good place to post this was. Is there a sticky somewhere I didn't see? But anyway, here's a link to Rilo's portrait.

Here's Ub's portraits. I e-mailed you a different one before colinpoh, but use this one instead. Thank you. :)

http://www.geocities.com/gobbiz/Ub.zip

I'm new to downloading modules and files to my NWN games. Took me a while where to put the modules I'd unloaded, and where to put the haks.

In the NWN Vault with the portrait packs and some FAQ's below the dowload link, someone said that those files should be saved in the "portraits" folder in the NWN folder.

I couldn't find a folder titled "portraits" to save it into.

So all of those cool portraits are sitting in a folder on my desktop and I don't know which folders to extract them to.

Thanks for any help.....

If there's no portraits folder in your NWN directory, which seems to be the case with newer versions, just create one.

Alternatively, you can unzip them into the /override folder. This allows you to see the other portraits, but you can not use them yourself.

Snoteye,

If I create that folder, is the application going to know to look there to offer me those portraits in the character generation process?

Or is there some other more techy way to ascribe those portraits to my character?

If you add a portraits folder inside your main NWN directory then, yes, you will be able to choose between both standard BioWare portraits and the ones in the portraits folder upon character generation. However, all portraits in the portraits folder will be shown, thus finding the right portrait for your dwarf among 580 + standards can take quite some time (and I only have the EFU portrait packs and half of one of the Menzoberranzan packs).

Now that Filthy Ike is getting a bit tougher... I think this would be a good portrait for him.. as long as he gets his head shaved......

I didn't see this covered in this post and I can't seem to get it to work so ... How do you get the Male and Female folders that are in the portrait packs to work with their respective genders in NWN? I can't get the program to recognise them inside the folders and if I place them outside of the folder they overwrite each other so I have only male or female in the portraits folder. This is my current file path: C:\Program Files\NeverwinterNights\NWN\portraits as well as a Male and Female folder within portraits. What am I missing?

To the best of my knowledge, NWN does not (by default) recognize subfolders in any of the standard paths. I think they placed them in Male and Female subfolders as a courtesy. If there is a way to get those folders to work, I am eager to know about it, although I will then need to find and move the EFU portraits. *meh*

I unpacked the portrait archives, but couldn't see them until I moved them out of the male and female directories. They worked fine, then.
