Sanctuary Council, Town Hall

Honored Councilors of Sanctuary,

In my brief time in the city of Sanctuary, I have discerned a void in the social lifestyle of the city that I believe should be remedied. That void is the apparent lack of any balls, galas, or celebrations, open to all the people of the city, to commemorate the city's victories, achievements, and progress.

I have no doubt that some of you consider such events to be frivolous undertakings that detract from Sanctuary's stated goal of survival in a harsh Underdark. You have organized tournaments, which do well to allow the adventurers and combatants of Sanctuary to train, compete, and be rewarded for their skills. You have organized memorials, to remember and honor the sacrifices of the valiant fallen. Yet, from what I perceive, little is done to reward and bring together the living victors of Sanctuary as whole.

Events such as balls and galas in honor of Sanctuary's victories and achievements are crucial to improving and sustaining the morale of Sanctuary's people. Sanctuary has become a city in every sense of the word-its people need rewards, they need to mingle, they need to know that their hard work, their struggles, their sacrifices, will mean a better life for them, and their children. The mind of any man or woman is not content simply to exist-all beings find joy in the service of higher causes. The people of Sanctuary need to know that the romance of a dance, the intimacy of a conversation, and the joy of a celebration are not simply restricted to the surface.

The Hall of the now-defunct Seekers would be an easily appropiate place for such a venture. The lower floor could be open to the common citizen, with the upper floors left to the whims of Sanctuary's nobility. A celebration in honor of Sanctuary's new governing contract, and its bright future under this system, could be held. Sanctuary's people would be able to see a testament to the better days that this new government promises, which would likely boost their support for the Council, as well as lift their spirits in their daily tasks. The resources required to conduct such a gala would be minimal-and when compared with the uplift in the city's spirits that such an event would bring, I hope that you will find such an event to be worthy of consideration and implementation.

This is a simple means to improve both your standing with your people, their standings with others, and their standings with themselves. It is my sincere belief, and hope, that you find merit in the proposal.

Correspondence may be returned to the Last Stand Inn, should you wish to relay letters.

Sunite,

I'll put this proposition up for voting. I can promise you it won't get mine, though. Sanctuary need not spend its meagre resources financing 'balls' or 'galas' where everyone gets dressed up real pretty. The world is ugly, especially our niche of it, and it won't do anyone good pretending that it isn't, or wasting time trying to make things beautiful when they simply aren't. Life down here is a gritty struggle, a battle fought everyday, a war unending until we strike the surface.
