Right, here's de deal.

I've been noticing players remarking, "I hear de gnolls are getting up ta no good again." Or, "Undead in the hoaran temple, -again.-"

And the staircase quest, "The next undead wave is coming in." (Though this quest is no longer there, still serves a valid point.)

As suchs quests are beocming routine (They are) People just go non-chalantly, yes, i'll help bash some gnolls. They don't think of (Oh my god! There is gonna be like a hundred gnolls gunning for my neck!) The point is, players have been taking to Tinking, "Gnolls in the mines again? Oh well, I'll help bash em."

Gnolls in the mines are a new experince. Period.

Undead in the Hoaran temple, I have no idea for, this might be repeatable in player eyes, but if a dm cares to remark on this one, Take it as a new experince, EACH TIME!

I mean, players don't notice items on each quest that are the true source of the undead, in Hoar for example, there is a (FOIG) in the boss chamber that obviously points out which (FOIG) is reponsible for the undead. People assume necromancers, lich's...etc... are responsible for such, in truth, its right, but on the scripted ting, it's (FOIG) and people rarely pay attention to it.

I guess I am just complaining about people not making each quest a new experince, (I am also guilty of such) and people inevitably think it's routine. I apologize for this bad post, (I know it is, its barely understandable) but I just gotta vent some frustration.

I don't think this is a bad post at all, and as a matter of fact, it touches down on some very good points. Points that have been discussed many times before, by both the players and the DMs.

What it comes down to in my opinion is people putting themselves into their character's shoes (for part A). You're character does not know about this stuff, especially if they're a new character and you've primarily done this quest with a different char. I see tons of people assemble a group for a quest and then magically everyone knows about it, or everyone knows the exact location. Leading the group you make a wrong turn, someone will surely correct you with "it's over this way".

Another example (or Part B) is the way alot of players treat a quest as something they have done before, which makes no sense whatsoever, and is heavily frowned apon (at least by me). What I hate even more is when I go through the trouble of assembling a group for a task, and another person, whether originally with us or along the way states "I already took care of that problem" which puts everyone in an awkward place rpwise.

People need to learn that this is not the way things work. In my opinion it's metagaming and exp points should be taken away if a DM sees players doing this...but then again it may be a new player, or someone unfamiliar with the rules entirely, which makes this sort of thing tougher to deal with. So what else can you do besides send them a friendly Tell stating some facts to them in a well-mannered fashion. The only thing we can do as players to aid others is to influence them in a positive way.

Edit: Another helpful thing to do is direct them towards the forums. Tell them to look over the rules sections, or to use the forums as a place to keep in touch with everything. I had been playing on EfU for quite a long time before I even knew the forums existed.

Is that like de_dust?

Really though, yeah. If you've got a real problem with it, go find some new quests and rock them out. The DMs complain in IRC all the time (those whiners) about all the really awesome quests on the server that almost never get done.

There's more to life than trogs and gnolls, Tommy-boy.

Just sayin'.

MOre foten that not, I;ve went out of my way to do quests that I know! have never been done before, well completely to my knowledge. The spire quest, for one, is something I would love to do, yet no one ever wants to do it. IN fact, Noirin will set up a group and rock it.

If you talk about the one I think you are I loved that one, really a challenge.

I don't think that's what he's saying, though. It sounds to me like he's saying he's tired of seeing people having "already defended the staircase today."

Such is the double edged nature of static quests.

It's fair to assume there is something terrible going on in the Hoaran Temple, and that undead plague it consistently despite efforts to cleanse it. It's fine to say gnolls are moving in and out of the mines constantly. While this doesn't necessarily hold true for all of our scripted quests, they operate on a case by case basis. Chill out Thomas, and let us DM's worry about metagaming. :)
