This comes up a lot:
(1) Player A expresses interest in a faction. (2) DMs say great, tell them to find PC members of the faction to interview and get to know (3) Players in the faction meet the aspirant, and tell them to speak with a NPC in the faction.
That's really not desired.
Faction admittance for most characters is about whether they get a recomendation from the characters in the group. Generally, when DMs are directing players to other players it's so they can interact -- at times it can overwhelming for us to deal with so much, personally interviewing all the PCs that are interested in the group is just too much for us.
Take the interested person around with you, take them on quests, hire them to do errands, interview them, assign them to duties, spar with them and then when your character makes a decision let the NPCs know with a simple recomendation or non-recomendation.
One of our aspirations with most factions is that the day to day affair of running themselves will take as little DM involvement as possible.
Don't get me wrong, we're happy to possess NPCs when we have time but it's just unmanageable to have extended interviews with every applicant for every faction.
Hopefully this will clear things up a bit.
