These Dire Deep Frogs are killer! When you enter an area, if they're present they will charge from wherever they are in the Underdark to come meet you personally for some one-on-one serious pwnage!
I've entered areas where the frogs may be a mile away and they decide to rampage down my way.
I don't believe it's intentional, so here is a fascinating bug report describing it all!

These Dire Deep Frogs have a huge visual range (and possibly hearing, if they charge at you when you're behind a wall.) Zoom in at the back of your character. The moment the Frog appears in your screen, it will see you as well. It's about 1.5x as far as pretty much all other enemies in the UD. Hope that helps!
I'm almost positive they don't come after you otherwise.

You can hide from them with stealth or invisibility, yes. They do have a HUGE range though. The Underdark is a dangerous place.

They also seem to be fairly good at detecting.
AE is your best friend when encountering one of them alone.

The one time I saw someone running away from a dire deep frog I tried to AE it on my first druid and it is immune, since it is is immune to all mind spells.
They are pretty darn feirce especially when you are alone.

On the danger of going off topic, but Dire Deep Frogs are not mind spell immune. I tried it just this day.
It was clearly dominated and fought valiantly at my side against five Merrows and eventually lost. The frog Gods rest its slimy soul.

I could be totally wrong, but the person could have been being chased by a Deep Lurker. I don't know if they're Mind Spell Immune, or immune to AE, but they look the same, so it could explain why it wasn't possible to AE what you thought was a Dire Deep Frog.

Well I -know- Dire Deep Frogs are immune to AE.

They aren't, you know. Unless it's changed in a month or so.

On Kaur someone was being chased by a dire deep frog and ran past me and another druid (forgot who) in the dark lake shore, we both tried to AE it and it was immune but we killed it anyway.

Well, I've always been able to AE them. Deep Lurkers hang around the dark lake, though, and they're definately immune. That's the only thing I can think of that could explain it.

A95, you are very, very, very wrong. I have played several rangers, and have dominated many Dire Deep Frogs. My drow ranger used to go to the canal just to find one and take it along hunting for sacrifices to Gooey McSlimy!
On a more productive note, AE does act a little buggy. I've noticed Frogs and Deep Lizards are a little trickier to dominate than most everything else.

I was chatting with a player in tells about funny stuff we have done. He said Dire Deep used to be AE-able, but aren't anymore...mebbe this may be the answer?

Yes, I play druids all too frequently and they used to be AE-dominated, but I tried it fairly recently and they no longer can be emp'd. A sad development as it is either a not be seen or run situation now. Deep Lurkers are also immune but they are completely different looking so there should be no discrepancy on which was seen.

I win :D, but since my short time playing here I've only encountered two or three dire deep frogs and only tried to empathy one, which it was immune.

Alright, for all that are still soundly confused now I have the answer.
Listen well, children, I only say it once now. :P
Dire Deep Frogs are still entirely AE-able. I tried it out just now at great risks (being up against two of them, actually; and they were NOT mind immune or anything.)
In short: It still works. Have fun going on a rampage with your amphibian friends. 8)

Could a dm chime in on this one? Unless they are random emp'able and not, I know for a fact that some of them are absolutely immune to being dominated. Or perhaps a dm was playing sadistic tricks on the cocky druid that had no fear as he thought he could emp it and then got nailed for it. :P No, but truly, dm please put the official wording in with this.

They're animals, and therefore should be AE-able.
