Letter to Agent Blake, Spellguard Tower

A crumpled letter has been left with Officer Barkley at the front desk of the Spellguard Tower, addressed simply: Spellguard Agent Blake. The letter, when opened, reveals a single sheet of parchment with what appears to be dark blood stains along the edges and there are several small splotches of blood spread over the document. In a hasty scrawled handscript, it reads:

Agent Blake,

We must unite. The Spellguard and the Society fight many common battles and our enemies are alike: Drow, Illithid, Beholder, to name a few. They threaten the sanctity of our city, as is well known and have threatened the citizens here for over 150 years. Nothing seems to have changed. We fight this cold war against subtle external oppressors. We must seek to share our resources and aid each other any ways we can. Our survival depends on it. I sense that you share these ideals.

The nearby Mines have become increasingly hostile to travellers; not only do we encounter numerous wandering aberrations, but often we encounter hostile groups of gnolls, goblins, and other creatures that would take our life. Last dark I accompanied a group into a well known gnoll territory in the Mines, and was nearly crushed to death by a hound-like creature among the gnolls that I have never seen. It nearly wiped out seven of us alone, and I was knocked unconscious twice. And this is but a gnoll leader, of some kind. The Mines are become increasingly dangerous to traverse. --Two lines of text are scribbled out forcefully-- So close to home. Too close.

You remember the ill-fated mapping expedition organised by the Society that nearly claimed the life of Ordinant Iodeus, and that was into known aberrant territory. I must reiterate our thanks for your assistance in this exploration, along with the Spellguard Associate who accompanied us, whose name escapes me, for it was he who removed Iodeus's body to initial safety. -- A sentence is crossed out several times and is unreadable-- Even the controversial eradication of Zepheron in his well-hid Laboratory was a successful uniting of Spellguard and Society resources for our common need to be rid of a threat to Sanctuary.

Separated into factions that promote envy and jealousy we become isolated and fragmented - communicating and sharing ideas between our factions enable us to work in unison to delve deeper into these Aberrant and Malign Threats that encircle our Sanctuary, our home. I'm sure there are other factors here that we share an interest in (such as Dunwarren machinery); factors that are too numerous and detailed to mention concerning our common safety.

Please - alone we are nothing in our explorations of the outer and inner 'Dark. Shared - we are much stronger.

Yours in the Spirit of Concord,

Ordinant Kepler Szul.
