Arden's Book of Moral Stories for Children of Ages 3-7

// Thanks to Winston Martin for the picture!

Once upon a time, in Sanctuary, there lived a little boy named Toby. He lived in a little house, with his Mummy, Jessica, and his Daddy, Maerick.

One day, little Toby got bored, and decided to go on an adventure. Picking up his toy sword, he went out into the big wide Sanctuary, and wandered about until he found an exiting staircase. Quickly running up it, he found a big gate and some men in armour he decided to adventure with.

Following the big men outside the city, he walked with them a bit and saw them killing big bad monsters. However, little Toby got lost, and was all alone in the big dark Underdark.

Toby was very sad, and began to cry, when suddenly, more men in armour came. Toby was very happy, and thought they'd come to save him, but then he found out that they were nasty Dark Elves.

Stealing Toby from his mummy and daddy, they put him in a big sack and started taking him away. Luckily, though, three heroes in Big Gold Armour came and killed all the mean Dark Elves, and took Toby back to his mummy and daddy, who were very thankful, and praised Lathander and Torm forever.

The moral of the story?

Don't leave Sanctuary, because it's a Big, Scary World out there and there won't always be Heroes to save you!

Once upon a time, in Sanctuary, there lived a little boy named Toby. He lived in a little house, with his Mummy, Jessica, and his Daddy, Maerick.

One day, little Toby got bored, and decided to go on an adventure. Picking up his toy sword, he went out into the big wide Sanctuary, and wandered about until he found a man in a dress, who was shouting lots about Milil.

Confused about what Milil was, he went home to his Daddy, and asked him. His Daddy said; "Well, son, Milil is the One True Hand of All-Wise Oghma. And he is God of Song and Poetry. He believes that all of life is a song, and you should always try to perfect it and make it more wonderful for you and everyone else. However, he teaches you that what you may find nice, another may not, and what you find nasty, another may like, so respect other people's likes."

The moral of the story?

Worship Milil!

In the big, black alleys of sanctuary, little Toby wandered. He heard talking, and so decided to look round the corner. There, he saw a little, ugly man with yellow skin, a Goblin, and a scaley little walking lizard, a Kobold.

The next page is filled with a picture of a Kobold and a Goblin, both drawn simply, brightly and colourfully, although managing to look very stereotypically evil

The little monsters spotted him, and ran over to him, offering him candy. He accepted the yummy treat, and began gobbling it up. Then, they grabbed little Toby, and tried to eat him.

He escaped, and ran very fast, until he was caught in an alleyway. They were just about to attack him, when suddenly, a man in red armour charged the little monsters, slaying them both.

He took Toby back to his father, and Toby thanked Tempus for sending his servant to save him forever.

The moral of the story?

If you see a monster, run!

Once upon a time, little Toby was wandering the streets of Upper. Lots of other people were, too, and little Toby suddenly spotted something. A whole shiny golden coin!

He picked it up and put it in his pocket, smiling happily and heading off home to mummy and daddy, when a man who didn't look at all very clean began shouting.

"Help! Help! I lost my gold coin! Somebody please help, I need that to buy my dinner!"

Toby felt a little guilty, but he was sure that his mummy would be very happy with the coin, so he tried to rush off home. But the man stopped him, and asked if he'd found a golden coin. Toby said no, and hurried off home.

When he got there, the man and his friend were at his house. Toby heard the man's friend tell his parents that he saw Toby pick up the shiny coin, and the man was very sad. Toby had to give his shiny coin back, and his parents shouted at him for a long, long time.

The moral of the story?

Don't lie! If you find money, hand it in to the Watch!

Once upon a time, Banites were allowed into the council. Two days later, a Temple of Bane, made entirely out of the skulls of children, was erected, and demons, ghouls and blood stained Knights roamed the street freely, killing everything in their path because they could.

The moral of the story?

Bane is an evil, evil God whose Priesthood has such common hobbies as eating children, killing people's wives, and setting alight to your house while you're still inside.

Once upon a time, Hell, the home of all Devils, saw the city of Sanctuary, and saw that everybody was happy. They saw that nobody strived for the surface, and that people liked living in the city.

And so, the Devils sent two of their own, and the Devils pretended they were humans, and called themselves Montezzis. And, because the Devils wanted to get rid of hope, they began doing that.

First, they killed one of the three groups that truly loved Freedom. They killed the Ascensionists, who strove for the sun as all good men should, and did good in the city.

And then, because the Hoarites knew they were Devils the Montezzis killed everyone in the Church of Hoar, so that nobody could know what they were.

Then, the Montezzis put up signs, and made Beggars slaves, and began turning Free Lower into a Domain of Evil and death, where people were killed for no reason at all, and they did this so they could tempt humans.

For, with each person who joins Montezzi, the stronger he becomes. And he will attack and kill the only hopes for Sanctuary- The Seekers, and the settlement of Freedom. And then, nobody will ever find the Surface, and when Sanctuary has no hope, the Montezzis will show their true forms and kill all the weakened people and send them to Hell.

The Moral of the Story?

Never forget the Surface. No Tyranny can hold it from us, children!
