More Bad Guys

Just for clearness, this isn't specifically a topic asking for more evil characters.

There's so many paladins on the server right now that it's ridiculous. I just had my character make a walk from the Crone to the Stand.

On the roads in Lower: A party of paladins, off to do something goodly. In between: A passing paladin. On the corner at the Stand: A congregation of about 4 paladins discussing the ways of Torm. Entering the Stand: Greeted by two fellows in gold armor, also paladins.

So that's about 10 paladins just taking a short walk.

What I'd like to make clear is that it's a bad idea to make topics that call specifically for the entire server to make more global-type characters. In this case, there's been a topic calling for more good characters. Now there's been a small surge in new characters by established players, and I don't doubt that about 90% of those will be paladins or some other sort of goodly folk.

THIS IS ENTIRELY UNBALANCING.

To have this many paladins walking around is ICly unjustifiable, and making the game absurdly difficult for evil characters, because they can't safely walk the streets anymore for fear of some paladin clicking the "Detect Evil" button and getting swiftly smote (or whatever the term is).

Please please please please PLEASE refrain from making topics like this in the future, because it just ruins the IC experience and makes it far too difficult for the type of character that is opposed to the suggested one.

This is LOL.

If you're going to use completely unfounded and inane arguments to try to start a flame war, do it in a more clever fashion.

I'm not trying to start a flame war. The amount of paladins really is ridiculous. They're supposed to be a relatively rare class.

Of course, calling someone's arguments completely unfounded and inane while backing those claims up with absolutely nothing is absolutely no flamebait.

instigation

How can you tell all of those people were paladins? Very few 'religious' warriors actually have the paladin class.

You are also wrong that it doesn't make IC sense, considering a prelude took place that involved an order of Torm paladins and clerics, who all ended up in Sanctuary.

So IC it does make sense.

These sorts of trends swing back and forth. It'll even itself out.

WinstonMartin is correct. Its a cyclical thing.

PvP has a way of doing that.

There are plenty of evil characters, lately I think most of them are on vacation or something.

So rarely do I get to say QFT and really mean it.

Markdaskoo, I get what you're saying, and hey, I understand. To me, I think it's been a very rich time for paladins and good guys, and the evil team has been suffering for it. We've lost two excellent players in Mag and Mort. However, please try to understand that what you're feeling now is by no means new; in the past, this has been the same sentiment shared by the good guys, only in reversal.

That there is a sudden and decidedly-high proportion of Paladins is really more indicative of chance and odds at work than any little post on a forum. People will play who they want to play. Do you really think anybody's going to listen to me? No, I was just out there doing my usual half-sarcasm gimmick.

I hope you won't take all this too personally. In time, the scales will shift back towards the dark, but right now, I think that Sanctuary is in a very interesting place and I wouldn't change it for the world. If it helps your black black self esteem any, I'm still in fear for my life IC.

<3

I agree, it will probably blow over, and who cares if paladins have picked up. Evil usually out-number good chars in majority of games, at least I think. I made one just for the -more- challenging play and because I was bored of playing evil chars. That paladin got dealt with by Banites. So, IMO, I still see more evil activity than I do good, even with ten paladins taking strolls through Sanc. :)

Never in the history of EfU has Team Good been as powerful, as influencial, and as large in number as it is right now, as far as my memory takes me. It's about damned time Torm and Tyr and that crazy Helm made a real impact. Despite how radical of a change this is, it is a good thing. Our world is incredibly dynamic. Men come in and out of power quicker than jackrabbits breed. It's all part of the reason why we play here, why Sanctuary is so intriguing.

Too many paladins you say? It is a pvp server, if your char is threatened, by so many, start killing them as quickly as you can...before they are beyond your reach..just make it fun for all involved as you wrench their still beating hearts from their chests and offer it to your dark gods.

what he said!

Even if there were too many paladins, evil can still walk the streets without being smoted, rthey still have to obey laws. Any evil character worth his salt will be able to avoid them long enough until they reveal a weakness, it just means they'll have to be a little more creative now than "Whack him one when his buddies an't looking, then tell them someone else did it" due to their detect evil.

Just loot the beacon and watch them run shouting " I smite youz" Then ambush them... Problem solved

thing is being evil is not a crime in its self you cant just walk up and detect evil ..then kill some one rp wise its murder catching a evil person murdering people would get a smite one must be cought in the act breaking a law and the action from the pc must be balanced vs the crime.. also since most evil pcs havent got any more evil points it just says[name] has a faint evil aura..

It takes a little faith in other players and the way they RP .

Lower Sanctuary doesn't have laws. Paladins can run down there and PVP at random. Now, the majority of Paladin-players will think, 'Hey Coldburn, thanks for the good idea!'. But rest assured, the cycle will cycle. As always.

Looks to me like people are taking this slightly too seriously. This topic was half a joke, me venting a bit of wonton frustration with all of the goodies standing around. I really wasn't trying to get an actual discussion going.

You'd really think I'd have been joking, I don't see one post in this topic actually agreeing.

Just kill them.

I feel a lock-topic coming !

Actually no.

They decide you're evil and figure you might break the law someday and smite you anyway.

I don't play here enough to really have an opinion on the swings of the server, but generally, if I am evil, I WANT there to be more good then evil-more people to get into conflict with. The same goes when I am good, but vice versa. What fun is being evil, if the majority is evil, and all you do is sit around glaring eb0ly at each other?

Oroborous Actually no.

They decide you're evil and figure you might break the law someday and smite you anyway.

And that paladin then falls because he has chaotic/evil points for commiting murder in a city street.

Paladin's make wonderful sacrifices to evil gods.

The only player I know who can keep a Paladin alive or non-fallen longer than a month is Wern8. All other Paladin's are pale imitations of the true Paladin of T0rm.

Julian Fryar fer lyfe. It's not like it's hard to kill off brave, thick-headed religious front line fighters.

Actually no.

They decide you're evil and figure you might break the law someday and smite you anyway.

Lets forget for a moment that in this case, it would be murder (being evil isn't a crime, and even if it was, not one punishable by death.) Would you as a player, be at all happy if you evil character was killed on the street by some stranger who you have never seen before, and did it purly because you have an evil aura?

Also, being evil doesn't nessicerily mean you'll break the law. There is an alignment called "Lawful Evil" where you perform evil within the law. The example given in the Players handbook is that of a Baron who eats at banquet while his farm workers strave. He gets away with it, because the law of the land allows him to do so. If a paladin smote (not sure if thats really a word, but what the hell) the baron, he would be breaking the law.

One last note, the idea of "smite everything evil, no questions asked" strikes me as a Lawful Neutral view. Lawful Good is required to show compassion as well as uphold honour and knightly vows, while Lawful Neutral is "Uphold my code and nothing else".

My last Paladin has his head ripped off. Haha, So I enjoy playing evil more or less....but then, Noirin is NG.

There's less paladins then there are 6-8 charisma dwarves. Your one PC's perspective is far different then what I see when I'm cruising around on the DM client. I think this is a silly topic, and I'm locking it because it's based on something totally unfounded. This, as others have said -- is a cycle. Vigilante paladins will quickly lose their paladinhood.
