Letter to Sheriff Walters

Sheriff Walters,

My name is Mandarin Dreagle, for several weeks now I've cooperated with one Agent Delgado in a case involving several magical rocks of which I know much. The Agent currently holds all the rocks that we've discovered.

I was informed by a member of the watch that the investigation was solely in the hands of the Spellguards. I have cooperated fully with them, and was ordered not to share any information with anyone not authorized by their order.

Recently, a private whom I have little trust for attempted to question me on the stones. I refused to answer them, at which point he threatened to search my possessions and take any stones he saw. I refused to allow this unless he brought an agent of the Spellguard or a superior officer to oversee that he was following proper laws.

He refused, and so I refused as I felt I had to due to my oath to the Spellguard to aid him at all. I'm currently remaining under voluntary house arrest at the Rock Bottom Tavern in full continual sight of the watch members housed there until I hear what the truth of this issue is. I will cooperate willingly with the watch, but their previous orders to me was to only work with the Spellguard in this.

My fear is that certain rogue members of the watch covet dangerous secrets for themselves, not the safety of the city. A fear shared by the Spellguards who ordered my silence.

Mr Dreagle,

If you have given all of your stones over the Spellguard (as is right and proper), I do not understand why you were reluctant to submit yourself to a search. That said, you are correct that the Spellguard is fully handling the investigation. You are free to go about your business, so long as you continue to cooperate with that organization. I would like to know the name of the Private in question.

Lt. Kozamis

It is Private Rayas. A man whom I was informed by certain Spellguard agents to absolutely not trust in this matter. These stones have a corruptive influence I was warned on those who have held them, and Private Rayas has indeed held them though only briefly.

I can assure you, that I intend to follow the Spellguard's orders precisely as they are relayed to me. My reuctance to aid in a search was merely because, as a citizen-I expect to be treated with certain due respects and baseless searches are humiliating. As was being physically restrained through the use of magical arrows, and threatened with physical harm by Private Rayas if I continued to comply with the orders of the Spellguard.

A number of witnesses in the crowded Rock Bottom Inn were horrified at the situation and Private Rayas' conduct, elusive in reason as it was.
