Order of Ghalmarn

The Order of Ghalmarn was originally formed by slaves very much like you. By Tymora's grace they discovered freedom, they too longed for the day they would set foot on the surface once more. Navigating through the endless dangers of the Underdark, suffering many losses- They began to lose hope; the endeavour they set off to undertake would be the end of them.

They were small in number, they could not construct walls such as the ones that shelter us presently in fear of being discovered. They did not have the skill and cunning of the Drow, they did not possess the knowledge that had kept the Svirfneblin race alive for many centuries. It occured to them, much like the founders of Sanctuary, that if they did not settle and wait instead of taking brash measures to acquire a safe route to the surface, they would soon perish. However, Sanctuary was created as a temporary safe haven, until the glorious day they would resurface, and join their kin. The Order, saw differently.

The Underdark; full of mysteries waiting to be discovered, endless knowledge ready to be harnesed. The desolate depths of the Underdark are nothing like the bustling surface. Yet, the vast and empty expanse is in fact flowing with vibrant life. The musty air we breath, the bleak waters that flow around us, the barren land we tread on- All conceal the powerful weave that binds this mysterious world we await to be 'rescued' from.

Why then do we look above for an answer? We are so absorbed in the thought of reaching the surface once more, we lose any semblance of reason, we forget why it is we long for the surface in the first place. Look around you, below you even. Deep within the Dunwarren ruins lays an abundance of knowledge we cannot even begin to comprehend. From the eastern most part of Faerun, to its farthest stretch west- Scouring its land will unearth nothing the radiant light of the surface has already discovered; all of which are disappointing discoveries indeed, in comparison to the countless concepts that remain here; still too advanced for our limited grasp.

If I may stress, in our years of study, the knowledge we have acquired was done so in the name of prosperity, enlightenment and -not- to appease a higher power. As our numbers were before, and as they continue to swell; we are comprised of an endless variety of faiths and races, all who serve their Lords, divided. When they see fit to return and unite with the Order again, they become once more the singular body of scholars. A singular body, a singular goal; all who wish to join us do so regardless of their previous history, which is cast aside before they are to be initiated.

Look around you, you live and continue to thrive while you hail from distant lands, serve different dietes, yet strive for one thing. People you may have considered your enemies on the surface now live among you. People you have lived and fought along side- Perhaps only by necessity, nevertheless you continue to mingle. Evil does lurk in the Underdark, that is certain- However, it only obscures the tranquil and unifying properties that comprise the Underdark.

I welcome anyone who wishes to join us to contact me at the Pissing Crone.
