Agent Blake,
I pen you this letter a few moments after I returned to Sanctuary after one of my regular exploration ’missions’. I was making notes about the group of strange creatures who reside within the Dark Canal (see footnote one), when I came upon a cavern which I decided to enter. Within the cavern I found three of the half-drow/half-spider creatures (see footnote two) who seemed to be making it their home at this time. While I noticed no forces setting out from the side gates of Traensyr (see footnote three) a few hours earlier, I can’t vouch for if the drow aren’t planning something sinister in the lower quarter or canal ward.
The creatures didn’t appear to be doing anything in particular, other than simply waiting patiently. I did not hear them speak between themselves, nor do I think I would have understood them, and I did not find any equipment further within the cavern itself. It seems that if they are planning to stay for an extended period of time within the cavern, they have not yet brought any equipment to make it any more defensible than it’s natural properties allow it to be.
While I understand neither the Spellguard nor the Watch are forced to take care of matters that concern the lower part of Sanctuary, I believe that further investigation of the matter is in order. I leave the matter in your capable hands.
1) I’ve been told that these creatures are commonly called The Unseelie. They appear to be guarding the entrance which leads into the cliff face on the right side (if you’re heading away from the canal ward) of the Dark Canal. Beside the entrance there is being pumped a strange green liquid into the canal waters. I’ll offer further reports as my scouting of the area continues.
2) As I inquired around Sanctuary afterwards, I was told that these creatures are called Driders. I can’t vouch for the correctness of the statement though.
3) The side gates of Traensyr (accessible from a path in the Badlands) aren’t as heavily guarded as I initially believed. There are numerous large spiders dutifully patrolling the grounds but the gate itself was guarded by (those that I saw) three bulky drow warriors and what appeared to be a mage. I also discovered a grate hidden under some rocks, if you follow the cliff face from the right side of the gate until it turns the other way again, which lead to an extremely strange cavern. The part of the cavern I was able to explore, I was stopped due to a large locked gate, held a number of ooze creatures and the walls themselves were covered in a green substance. I’ll offer updates on the state of this gate if it changes during any of my visits there.
