Drilacko Kenaut, Society of the Ordered Mind

A letter addressed to Ordinant Drilacko Kenaut, Society of the Ordered Mind is left with Armand Waters in the foyer of the Chapterhouse. The letter reads...

Ordinant Drilacko,

Since our very brief meeting in the halls of the Chapterhouse, I have been endeavouring to meet the obligations of joining the Society as a full member. Now I understand from what you said at the time that you believe we share a common interest in matters pertaining to the arcane and mental sciences, in particular, the culture of the Illithid. And that you have made extensive notes into such matters. I trust that Armand Waters informed you of my own arcane and psionicist interests. I look forward to developing these ideas further, for the sake of our mutual benefit as arcanists, and the good of the Society.

I understand that you would not divulge such precious learnings to just anyone who might drop into the Chapterhouse; and that such research may be held exclusively for Society members only. So I hesitate to inquire too much into your research before I have been authorised by the Founders as a true member of the crusade.

I feel I have gained the trust of Lady Ordinant Fhasaadi Huntinghawk by assisting in the uncovering of a possible Illithid outpost, or lair of some making, beyond Windy Cavern. I feel that somewhere near or inside this 'outpost' it is likely that the missing Society Founder Malark Amblecrown may be found. From my own investigations and beliefs on this matter (as initiated by questions raised by Ordinant Huntinghawk), Ordinant Malark may be still alive and enthralled to this Illithid colony. My initial inquiry (I utilise Tarot Cards for their arcane power of sight) located him surrounded by wind, what I called at the time 'A Taking Wind', and is wandering 'lost', somewhere beyond the reaches of the Windy Cavern. The 'Taking Wind' is both a metaphysical and physical concept derived from my use of the cards. So Malark's mind and body is being buffeted by a Great Wind. Ordinant Fhasaadi was/is beside herself with worry for this man, Malark. Perhaps you have your own occult means to 'find' the lost Society Founder?

I only draw this to your attention, for I believe that the enthrallment of any Society member, and certainly one believed to be still alive, becomes the responsibility of other Society members to find a way to release the captive from enthrallment. And as arcanists, the mind certainly lies within our realm of expertise. Not that we arcanists know everything, in any dogmatic way - but I find, the more one expands one's mental horizons, the more one encounters to absorb into one's life and being. I imagine that a spell-binder and lore-keeper can find a way to release a being from malign enthrallment at the hands of the Illithid?

You may wish to consult Ordinant Iodeus about this matter of the Windy Cavern, if you have not newly investigated the Illithid threat there yourself. Ordinant Iodeus was also there on the very first crossing of the new bridge.

For now, I can be contacted at the Last Stand, if you wish to speak further with me on these matters.

Yours in the spirit of ancient and new research,

Kepler Szul.
