I'm not sure with their AI why they do this, but these buggers will break off in a fight and run 10 steps away and then walk back into melee. If they have a sneak attack option, that makes sense but when they're the only foe you're fighting it makes them a lot simpler to kill.
Perhaps they need an AI adjustment?

It's cool. These guys will run all the way across the sewers and force you through every single rat on the way there, while baiting you along slowly in just this way.
It's a lot more entertaining than a standard fight, too!

Sounds like archer's AI. That'd make sense if they use a bow. ;)

Yeah, it does. It's actually silly because if you chase them slightly they keep running. When I had to deal with them I followed them a little and then broke off following. They just never returned to combat me. I just figured they were trying to lead me into a trap or that they were scared and trying to flee for help. (Which could also lead me into a trap.) Naturally, I did not follow.

I think they are annoying as hell and I love them for it

OR DID IT?! Maybe it was standing right behind you all the time, waiting for the right moment to strike, but you were just moving around too fast.

Those are the bane for single persons wandering the sewers....awesome.

Maybe! :P When I saw them run for the first time, and thought it was leading me into a trap - I took off running in the opposite direction. (I actually thought it was DM possessed and was -certain- it was trying to lead me into an ambush.)

I also thought the Chosen was DM possessed the first time I encountered one in the Sewers after the new AI was introduced. It was damn annoying (but in a refreshing way!) to chase it through the tunnels, having to fight packs of rats along the way, and I really got the impression that the creature was thinking. It was just as cowardly as you'd expect a wererat to be.
AI is always in need of adjustment, but I think the Chosen AI is pretty nice currently.

personally, I like the new AI for the chosen, it makes them more cunning...though admittedly, it would be nice if there WAS and ambush occasionally that would jump your ass.
Kind of like in certain quests where spiders drop from the ceilings and surround your group.

The Chosen run into walls. Repeatedly. They're confused as to where they're going. :(

I think that is a problem with AI as it doesn't have very good pathfinding.

When I first saw these I though a Dm was controlling them.

I believe the problem is that it's not doing pathfinding at all. It is only trying to distance itself from the PC(s) as if it were a turned undead.
