This missive has found you because a blow has been struck against the tyranny and oppression that have threatened to overwhelm Sanctuary. Demetrius Bhast, garbed in the appearance of a human, had so arrogantly proclaimed himself the "First Citizen" of this city of free beings, assuming a title and a reign of power to his hands that the free people of Sanctuary did not tolerate. The thoughts and wishes of these free individuals is why we acted as we did-we penetrated into the heart of this dark one's seat of power, slaying him in retribution for the crimes he commited to attain this power, and in the echoing cry of freedom that resounds within the hearts and minds of all individuals who call Sanctuary a refuge against the terrors of the night. Demetrius Bhast, and those under him, sought to pervert this refuge, distort it, and corrupt it-and so we struck him down.
You should know that, though Demetrius Bhast appeared human, he was not. He was an agent of the Chosen-the alien, damned influence that destroyed Dunwarren an unknown time ago, and that now threatens to corrupt and destroy Sanctuary. You may find this difficult to believe, but we have seen the proof with our eyes, and acknowledged it with our minds. His deeds within Sanctuary have all been aimed to a single goal-to amass power to himself, so that he could destroy the delicate freedoms that the people of this city have found within this place of shattered lives and broken hearts. He could not be allowed to succeed-and so we struck him down.
We bear no animosity for the Watch of Sanctuary, nor the Order of the Spellguard, nor the Seekers, nor the Council. We have not acted on the premise of any of these organizations, though acted we have. We do not represent these organizations, nor should you seek to persecute any of them for our actions. You may try to persecute these individuals, you may try to place blame upon them, but you will never find the ones responsible-for it cloaked in the mists of freedom that we struck, and shielded by the ethereal hope of dreamers that we now rest. Demetrius Bhast sought to pervert and destroy these organizations-and so we struck him down.
You have shown yourself to be opposed to the machinations of evil in this settlement. You have shown yourself to espouse the ideals of freedom. You have shown yourself to care for the citizens who share this tattered place of refuge, this shattered pillar of dreams, that starry-eyed men named "Sanctuary" so long ago. Prove that the name "Sanctuary" still applies to this place. Work to repeal the decrees of Demetrius Bhast, and restore the institutions and laws upheld by three generations of Bresleys for a century and a half. Support Adelia Tyrell for the seat of mayor-for she will bring the wisdom, the guidance, and the knowledge that this city needs. She will bring a fair, even-tempered hand once again to the fore of Sanctuary-she will bring peace back to this city. Do not let this act be in vain. Appeal to your fellow citizen, and restore this city to the peace and freedom it so desperately needs. Demetrius Bhast threatened all of this-and so we struck him down.
