Lower
We are abondoned. There can be no questions about that. Mayor Bhast doomed us to ruin with his speech, and with him all of Upper. Criminals shall prosper in the very place we live in, each day our children will live in fear of what will happen. Kobolds and the remains of the goblins shall forever satisfy their hunger on our people, slowly taking over until this very area becomes a wild part of the Underdark itself. The stairs up will be closed. This is the doom Upper want us to believe we face. I do not think so.
When I look around, I see nothing of the weakness they proclaim. We are the result of our striving for survival, we are the ones standing strong in the face of opposition. Each child of ours, are as strong as any man and equally cunning. As the kobolds sees fit to walk into the street, we will show them just what we think of those seeking to harm our brothers and sisters. The undead craving our blood will be banished not by the glory of priests alone, but by the result of our combined might. And Upper call us weak, their little experiment!
Who am I? That would be a solid question to ask. My name is Andrik Krown, a former resident of Upper Sanctuary. That will raise opinions against me and I expect that, even welcome it. For several months, as far as I have counted my time, I was a commoner of Upper. Notice the word, commoner. There are none commoners in Lower, because each of us is an individual strong enough to survive alone. There is no common term of us, because we are each unique. I stepped out of the commoners to become something more, and I believe I have much to learn from you all. In return, I hope to teach you.
Though if we are to survive, we have to raise ourselves higher than ever before. That we are now excluded from Upper Sanctuary is an opportunity higher than we can ignore. I am not one for making any laws here, we know ourselves what is accepted. This is a place of freedom, a place where one is not restricted by others. There are no nobles, a person is as strong as he is. No birthright to claim things, each of us are born alike. With the freedom to make our own choice, to each day strive to survive and evolve into something greater. The time has finally come for us to awake, to face the morning stronger than ever before. If we are to do that, we have to work together.
I put myself forward, for you to judge. For a short time or as long as you want me, I want to try leading you as a fellow citizen of Lower. Now that we are on our own, it is time to show our interests and seek others to deal with. Let no child of ours go starving to death, no troublemakers try denying us our freedom. But I cannot do this alone, and not at all should you be mispleased with me. I am at your disposal, use me as you wish. But I beg of you, do not deny me the chance to prove myself. Do not deny me the freedom I have had since my birth, since my escape from slavery and my step out from being a commoner. For I believe us all to be alike, to each have his or her place in this troubled world we live in. The vision of a stronger Lower, a place where freedom and independency are held in value. Let us each day strive to face the next stronger.
Lower, will you accept me?
