A letter to Narr'Ghuul.

((This letter was dropped invisibly at the feet of the tribesman in the market area, it is clearly labelled.))

Dear Narr’Ghuul,

I was led to believe that you and your tribe now desire me dead. As the story was relayed by Saduk, the Kua-tuo have sent assassins after me, and unless you join their hunt, you will also become a target of the aquatic folk. I sympathise with your plight, no one likes to be put in a compromised position. I imagine the residents of Loblobiiiblop are after me because they suspect I was in allegiance with the spectator. As we both had enjoyed the company of this otherworldly being, you know that I am guilty by association. I will fight off their assassins as best I can.

Saduk made clear to me that the friends of Flea also want my time on this plane to be cut short. I made myself target, specifically to give him the best possible chance to escape the wrath of the inquisition. Not thinking for my own life, I cast healing and invisibility upon the man before I fled to safety. This was the best I could do, and I’m sorry that it did not allow his survival. Perhaps his courage failed him at the last minute. As I understand that the Tribe of the Blade respects honour greatly, I request that you make clear to all who ask, specifically the friends of the deceased Flea, that I was in no way responsible for his death, I attempted, with the rest of you, to fool the inquisitor into releasing him. When that plan failed, I put myself in jeopardy to facilitate an escape for him. I have no desire to enter conflict with his companions. I could have stayed and watched him die, remaining safe as you and the ambassador did, but my conscience would not allow it.

This brings us to our own conflict. Sarduk seemed to indicate that he had no choice but to attempt to kill me on our next meeting. I respect the decision of the Tribe, and I will not flinch if you catch me. I am impressed by the fact that a Tribe member took the time to explain the reasons for the hunt. I do not quite follow why you chose the path you have, perhaps there is some connection between you and the ambassador that I was not informed of. I’m sorry if our conflict spilled over to you, as you recall I never intended you to be hurt at Loblobiiiblop, and I hold no slight against you.

It is my fervent desire that the conflict between us be resolved as rapidly and as expediently as possible. I ask if this engagement has any rules? Are we to hold the upper areas of Sanctuary as a place of peace, for example? I also told Sarduk that I do not desire to hurt any of the Tribe who are non-combatants. Could you provide for me a list of the Tribe of the Sword members who cannot, or will not, engage in the hunt, so I can avoid harming them? Unless specifically directed otherwise I will take no violent action toward the elderly or the young.

I receive correspondence at the Last Stand. I regret we cannot discuss these issues further face to face but such are the battle lines you have chosen to draw.

Merrial Stootbackle.

P.S. I gave the wand you ordered to Sarduk. I wish no debt be unpaid.

Merrial,

The Kua-toans never saw you out of your helmet, correct?

If so, please contact me QUICKLY, I might have an idea to solve this painful mess.

-Narr'Ghuul

P.S. Flea's death was inevitable at this point. He isn't a witch and breathing underwater for a trip that took several hours on boat was not something viable for any of us.

It is more the spinning the belongingness of the spectator to one of our party members that got us all in this mess, something that could easily have been avoided if you and the kobold wouldn't have started pointing fingers.
