The Fane of Shadows

Realized This is an idea for a DM run event that could take place over two or three days. The Fane of Shadows is basically a tap to the magical power of the Shadow Weave. It supposedly(or the impression I got from the Erevis Cale Trilogy) travels the planes, coming to certain places, for a limited time. What if the Fane where to come to, or near Sanctuary? Would the people of Sanctuary fight for its power? Would it attract monsters from the Underdark? Descriptions: The Font itself appears to be a bare tree. The building itself(optional, the tree itself could just appear.) would be something akin to a temple of Shar, seeing as Shar created the Shadow Weave. Dark colors, purples, blacks, etc would be dominant. Guardians: The Font is supposedly guarded by living shadows, and possibly radical priests of Shar, or any evil aligned creature. Roleplay Possibilities: If the Font is located in the in Sanctuary somewhere, various power hungry monsters(anything from goblins and kobolds, to liches) would try to enter Sanctuary to get to the Fane. Various monsters could have a journal mentioning something of the Fane. From there it would be up to players to find what the invading monsters seek, and where it is. Evil aligned characters could try to gain enchanted items(Shadow Weave touched weapons, (Any weapon with spells of Negative Energy Ray stored in it), armor, amulets, and rings(rings with Negative Energy Ray stored in it, or invisibility, or anything shadow, or Shar related.) Good characters could try to destroy it, and gain the blessings of good aligned gods( anything considered a "holy" or bolstering effect). Other possibilities would include a strange man, coming in and prophesying about the Fane(in riddles of course.), The Fane being close to Sanctuary and have a band of dying adventurers come to speak some kind of cryptic warning, or have them carry notes that offer enough information to get the players started. Any situation applied to this concept, could bring out plenty of roleplaying, combat, and everything in between.

I think such suggestions should go to escapefromunderdark@gmail.com or should be discussed with a DM directly through PMs or IRC. Takes the fun out of the sport if practically everyone knows what's going to happen.

Thanks for the heads up
