Letter to the Council: real estate claim. (Council and DMs)

Honorable Council members,

I wish to buy a building in Upper Town, or to have your authorization to have one build. The purpose of that building would be to implement a brewer's laboratory.

Indeed, it is vital for Sanctuary to gather and preserve the knowledge of eminent brewers, as well as to provide proper equipement for brewing, for the town's safety.

I require a building of about 150 square meters, which would include at least a guest waiting room, rest rooms for members, private alcoves, store rooms, and of course a main room to equip a laboratory.

I have found just the spot in Upper town: a seemingly abandonned house near the illusionnary amusement park. The nearness of strong magic would indeed be beneficial for brewing.

I look forward to your answer, as i need to raise funds for such a project. I also wish to discuss before the council the benefits of creating a Brewer's Guild in Sanctuary.

Lys the White, Citizen of Sanctuary.

[a reply is sent after some time; the letter eventually found its way to desk of Mayor and Councilor Bhast]

Lys the White,

As I understand it, brewing potions is not a process which requires a dedicated building with extensive labarotory equipment. Indeed, one can find a plethora of able brewers who make magical potions with even the crudest of tools as we Sancturians have available to us.

Moreover, the Spellguard workshops enjoy an abundance of alchemical apparatus for special brewing purposes, such as the testing and brewing of possible cures for diseases like the recent Rotting Death.

That aside, the Council will certainly review any property claim sent in to us. Assuming you can find the very large amount of coin needed to purchase one, and that a written proposal is submitted, reviewed and accepted by the Council, then its entirely possible you may come into ownership of said property.

Best regards,

[a letter is deposited at the mayor's office within the day]

Honorable mayor and councilors,

It is unfortunate our schedules do not allow us to meet, thus i will explain here the reasons that endeavour me to try and set up a proper and independant laboratory.

I am well aware that basic equipement allows common spellcasters to brew, but i wish to gather Sanctuary's eminent potions master in hope of discovering how to prepare more powerful potions. This project will of course take some time, as Underdark does not provide proper material easily. (//OOC: i was thinking of having a shop availlable only to guild members of high lvl>7 to buy special potions –lvl 4 for example which we find in the game but cannot brew - at very high price of course, very limited stock too if that is possible, and whatever other restrictions we can think off in the meantime.)

Whatesmore, leaving brewing to unexperienced spellcasters could result in unforseen and dire consequences, as well as a considerable waste of regeants, which the town may need in dire times. (//OOC: i was thinking of having the possibility to buy potions bottles at a lesser cost in the building, since i know you do not wish to decrease xp/coin cost of potions in specific places. Getting the curio shop to supply us might make bottles at 2 coins for guild members for example...)

More, having a laboratory, run by a brewer's guild, with the approbation of the Council, would create a trustworthy source of production. This would of course profit to the safety of the town in terms of supplies.

In this matter we would of course work hand in hand with Spellguard. A Spellguard agent i did meet with implied that this organization was more concerned with animatrons than with brewing. I do wish to regroup divine and arcane brewers: Spellguard does not.

In addition, too many times have I seen many uncontrolled brewers take profit from poorly informed newcomers. I would hope to end such a terrible abuse on refugees.

Finally, and most importantly, as i seek to run a profitable organization, we could find a tax arrangement that would profit to the town's budget.

As you see, i do seek not only a real estate for a personnal matter, but in time to developp a full guild to aid the town with such skills we have. Brewing is just a start, and the eminent brewers of the town that i have managed to contact all do support that idea. Your support, and the Council's support, to such a project, would evidently be decisive.

Concerning the real estate claim, i do believe 8 000 coins would suffice to acquire the necessary construction in Upper, as the illusionnary park nearing it is renowned for having regular and dangerous uncontrolled magic flows.

I look forward to your answer.

Sincerly,

Lys the White Citizen.

Lys the White,

Your idea might have merit.

In any case, you will still need to submit a written proposal with all the relevant details to the Council. I can also assure you that 8000 coins will certainly not be even half as much as you need to buy property such as you had in mind. Twenty thousand, I expect, would be much more accurate a figure.

That said, I must say I find your commitment to the idea, and the energy with which you are pursuing its realization very satisfying. I hope you can come up with the funds, and that your proposal is passed.

Best regards,
