The Logs of F.L

Holy Book of Tyr Reveal the truth, punish the guilty, right the wrong, and always be true and just in your actions. Uphold the law wherever you go and punish those who do wrong under the law. Keep a record of your own rulings, deeds, and decisions, for through this your errors can be corrected, your grasp on the laws of all lands will flourish, and your ability to identify lawbreakers will expand. Be vigilant in your observations and anticipations so you may detect those who plan injustices before their actions threaten law and order. Deliver vengeance to the guilty for those who cannot do it themselves.

3rd Hammer Year 152

Sergeant asked me some questions he really shouldn’t know to ask me (second time this has happened! Even W. seemed to know stuff.) He said I was obligated to tell him about the Brotherhood, so I gave him some vague information that is available to everybody (I mean, if he’s really interested then he can dig this stuff up himself) I’ve a feeling he’s not going to use it correctly, though, probably to add to the campaign against the S.

My “ghost” sent me a letter (might not be so ghosty?) I’m a bit suspicions about this “White Stag” (What is a stag?!) though it seems he might probably know B, who also “knew stuff” (Should I be paranoid, or just more careful?) which is some consolation.

People are saying that something will happen "soon", rebellion, revolution, war, one or all of the alternatives. The more I try to get to the core of this, (What, why, how and what will the result be?) the bigger my feeling grows that this is just something that’s happening “again.”

C. W felt it necessary to ask me questions too, regarding my role in jailing W. I don’t really understand why everybody (at least two Councilors and the Baron, probably half or Lower) seems so protective of him. He's rude, and there’s no talking to him, unless you enjoy trying to reason with a stuffy, poisons, mushroom. Still seems to be the key to what’s “going to happen.” (Wonder where S's "our place" is)

C.W also told me to try and locate the reporter, not sure how to go about doing that, asking those newspaper kids that’s running around?

A letter It seems the writer for Sanctuary Times has gone missing. Her name is Thrania, as we already established in our conversation.

She has shoulder length dark hair and is rather pale. Brown eyes and about average height for a human female. She was often dressed in dark dress and a cloak. To my knowledge didn't really have many friends, so it is hard to for me to point you to any specific direction.

I fear this is all I can give, I did not know the woman well, but I would hate if our newspaper is to be no more.

5th Hammer Year 152

Looked up some names as requested by WS, very surprised by the result (and the amount of dust in the archives) I imagine he suspected this. The old sheriff wanted them brought in but it was never done (lack of evidence, untimely death?) Agent(s) seems to consider them something of a threat; however it may be (another) a gray-zone in the law.

C.W seemed to be of the opinion that it would be dangerous to investigate. (Probably means there’s an even bigger reason to do so) I don’t really think I’ve a reason to be afraid, I’ve taken care of myself most of my life (and my feet, my feet and I go way back, we like to stick together.)

The others seem concerned about what is going on downstairs, (am I alienating myself by pursuing entirely different things? Private for life, sorry Pa) but I can’t help but imagine there’s very little we can do. It won’t do to just change the cosmetic appearance of the situation. Boots may look new and shiny, but they may still gnaw horribly on your feet

I’m still trying to find more information on this Brotherhood, S seems to be difficult to find (though he says he’s been asking after me, SL is cryptic as ever)

I did manage to speak to one of those kids selling newspaper, eventually. He seemed to be under the impression that the reporter was still alive, and was willing to take a message to her (in return for proper payment, of course. Citizens of Sanctuary know that nothing comes for free) I’ve a feeling I won’t hear from the reporter, though, or the boy

8th Hammer Year 152

I dreamt a gigantic monster-mushroom was chasing me through the streets of Upper. Nobody interfered and it chased me until I ran into my empty (more or less) arrest-log and was swallowed.

Hope, I don’t get into unjustified trouble ( I mean, I hope I don’t get into trouble at all)

It was supposed to be a good, honest job, (with good, honest boots). Watch the buildings and chase some lawbreakers stand on those Gates (like C. Bresley. Wonder what he’d say if he knew how things were, or maybe they haven’t changed at all). It’s all conspiracy and lies and twisted words. S has one side of things, but there are others (well, mostly books, but dead people are difficult to talk to) who tells another side of the same story. How am I meant to reveal the truth, punish the guilty and uphold the law when it’s all, oh, so complicated? (The gods bless you, Ma)

They say rats are a sign of disease and problems.

There was a war of sorts, it all started with H, deciding to punch a goblin in Lower. Things there have been brewing for ages, and in the end there was a big raid on the goblins’ quarters. Now, though, we’ve “zomblins” (from a rock in the shoe to no shoes at all) and many dead citizens.

I put myself on the gates, not sure why, just figured I aught to be there (might be because the citizens of Lower preferred goblin rule to assistance from the Watch. Do they still think we’re in the times of Sheriff D? Are we?) Some say (yes, I may be amongst them) that it’d be better to allow W to return, as he’s a better alternative then whatever monster is rooting for power (unless he’s on the monster’s side)

I think I’ve put too much trust and confidence in C.W. Then again, I may have made that mistake with many people.

11th Hammer Year 152

Oh, the boots we try to walk in.

Situation in the Lower Wards seems to have worsen (Yes, yes, I am trying to investigate, so many files!) goblins and kobolds have taken to the streets (more so then before) and it doesn’t take much for a quarrel to escalate into a big fight (as the Agents learned, I hope.) I suspect gangs have taken to the streets too (both smiling, and pink helmeted ones) Not much to be done when people down there wants it that way (their freedom to mug or be mugged?)

Things aren’t too pleasant at the House, and I’ve a feeling that what I’m doing (or trying to do) won’t really lighten the mood. (I’ll still do things because I believe they are right, not because they’ll make me popular) Have this feeling the sergeant’s all over my cases (maybe he doesn’t trust me, or he thinks I’m incompetent, or both)

L. seems to be as friendly as a stone lizard these days (maybe the shoe doesn’t fit?) and after the last confrontation I find myself wanting to patrol other parts of town.

This man turned himself in after he committed the “perfect” murders. Sergeant didn’t seem to think there was much point in looking for evidence (If we are to judge people by word of mouth of one person, then I need to find a new job) He was found guilty though and sentenced.

Had some more (subtle) warnings of where my inquisitive (not to mention conspiratory) mind will take me.

17th Hammer Year 152.

Things aren’t exactly working out as I had hoped.

Well, to be honest with myself, I don’t really know what I’m doing. C.W asked (again) for those documents to be passed “under the table”, I told him to go through the channels, do it by the book (Might not be under the table, but I’m not risking it, mother’s daughter after all) I’m really curious as to why he wants it.

Sergeant isn’t speaking to me at all, it seems (unless “….” is some for of vocal communication yet unheard of) could be because I didn’t give him the bad news (the downside of personally involved) as gently as I should. But that’s mostly because I can’t wrap my head around it myself. If he wants to stew, it will only reflect his poor leader skills (must be hard for him though, I guess)

Speaking of leaders, there’s a new election (didn’t we just have one?) and H.D is running too (should be interesting, never saw him as a political leader) There’s probably a new term-record, only one councilor killed (had one exiled though)

I had my fortune told by a soothsayer of the Tribe. It kept me up all night, thinking about devils and justice, temptress and towers. I guess some things make sense because you want it to.

28th Hammer Year 152

A lot of crazy things have happened recently (more so then usual)

Firstly, I got promoted to sergeant. When I was told Lt. G. wanted to speak with me, I was sure I was getting the boot (the edge is very sharp at times) but, to my surprise, he was pleased with my work and asked if I was ready to fill bigger boots.

Secondly, The Talk happened. I had seen it approaching, (little comments here and there) and I was mostly right about the outcome (from nothing, to nothing, what I have lost?) What he said didn’t really make much sense, at all. That person he described wasn’t me at all (and I would know, I am me, after all) Feeling more on the outside now then before. But this might be the best place to be.

Thirdly, the Mayor got assassinated (executed?) (I had seen that coming, like a looming shadow) there are orders to arrest the S. But it’s not /right/. I have to carry all this information (this truth?) secretly around, and it’s probably more deadly to me unspoken then if I told it (not that I have anybody to tell, what’s to say his men isn’t in on it) And of course, there’s no evidence (keep looking) The Underdark is excellent at swallowing evidence.

If nothing, the warning does make sense now, albeit I’ve placed my life (probably) in the hands of others. There’s been no official declaration, (which is odd) and his men hasn’t been dispatched (which is also odd) and the sheriff has taken this moment to go and visit his family (which is odd, and horribly timed)

What can I do but the job in front of me?
