Citizens of Sanctuary
Our city is based on that of freedom, and protection from the dangers of the underdark in whatever form they are. Groups have been formed, by the original Bresleys, to protect the city and, more importantly, the values that we stand for. Freedom, justice, protection. These are things we all value. The Watch, Seekers, and Spellguard, were created to protect this city from dangers. Recently, one man is trying to unwind all that we have created. This man is Private Haren De'votell.
As kobolds and goblins snuck into Upper from Lower and began to assualt citizens and pull their knives on the children of Upper, the Seekers mobilized to repel this threat. They were scattered, some running to Dunwarren, to Lower, or around in Upper to hide. Some were interrogated for information which will passed on to the Council. This was reported to the Watch as it was happening. Outside the Town Hall, several citizens watched as Private De'votell took to insulting the Seekers, and saying he didn't care about the threat on the basis that the Seekers made the report. Imagine, you could be killed in Upper, but because of the person who is trying to help you, the Watch refuses to do its duty. While each member in the organization has his own ideas, if Haren goes unpunished for this, then that is the attitute that we must view the watch with- ignoring their job because of petty squabbling.
There is more, for what he did was only the peak. He began to assualt citizens who did not agree with him with his axe, and when one citizen tried to stand up for justice, he was chased and thought to have been murdered by this rogue Watchman. All the people around him were disgusted, calling the watch a group of cowards and oppressors. We must foster freedom in this city, not foster oppression. This man is a single man, he does not represent all of the Watch. I call to all citizens to demand that this man be dismissed from the Watch for inciting riots- which almost did occur, as citizens began to call for it against this man who left his duty for a bottle of ale, and was fired because of it. He has endangered Sanctuary by the bottle, allowing kobold and goblin assassins to run rampant in Upper because he would rather insult Seekers than do something productive.
The Seekers took it upon themselves to investigate this matter with the citizens. While we had dispursed them and removed them as a threat, Private De'votell was off chasing a man who disagreed with him with his axe, beating him. Other Watchmen who were there immediately went to diffuse the situation with De'votell, suggesting that he may be alone in his radical and rebellious ideas, knowing that they would only cause trouble if they were seen in Lower for too long.
Citizens, I call for you to demand that the Watch dismiss this drunkard. He is not doing what the Watch stands for. He is doing what the Drow stand for. Oppression, slavery, beating those who speak against their values. This man should be exiled for endangering the city, not held in the Watch as a "defender." Sergeant Azuran, you seem to know what you are doing. Do the right thing.
