Will EFU ever get anything like the CEP or JenX or *smothing*? We have all those badass portraits, but no heads or clothing... thingies (models? meshs? Whateva') to go with! I'd personally mod the nudity out of JenX just to get it implemented!
Putry clothings (More CEP grousing)
For the record, I'm against any patches required to play on a server, beyond the standard engine. I think it's great if there are optional patches (such as the cleric domains), but I think required patches are a deterrent for new players.
For all the great hoods, placeables, and weapon/armor models the CEP had, the vast majority of it was crappy, hyper-sexualized rubbish. I wouldn't mind seeing a custom download that had bits and pieces of the good stuff, though.
The whole thing of finding the website and downloading a (probably) sizable file for a server is a massive deterent in this new generation of "back to basics" servers. Not to mention the impressive dink it will make in wallets for bandwidth costs. Sadly the never never became the standard, so I think it's better to keep the status quo for now.
Original conversation--let's skip the rehash and just pick up where this one ended again. I think we were at:
1) 1.69 will be the last patch.
2) Maybe it'll be alright to add a single hak--but who knows?
3) Several haks were being listed that could go into this one single hak on the off chance it could be added.
4) If JackOfSwords won't download a hak to keep playing, that's one more reason to require one.
The open-face helmet thing and non-helm headgear would be a nice addition. Perhaps a slightly less awkward looking version of this hak.
-If- EfU were to get a hak post 1.69, here's a few more suggestions to compile:
Tilesets: Dwarven Halls, CRAP's Dungeon Mix - includes DLA sewer which I really like
Creatures: Myconids, Leeches, Crystal Golems, Rust Monster, Driders, maybe some undead from the Denizens of the Dark
Plus new spells, maybe a few appropriate feats or skills such as Sense Motive are always welcome. I think the standard base classes work fine, and Prestige classes are so rarely earned that they are also fine.
Thankyou for including leeches :-D But you forgot Weathered Golems on your list!
I wonder if that open-faced helm VFX stuff can be an optional override? The only problem being, if you don't have it you don't see people in (those) helms? It's been a while since I messed around with what can/can't be in an override, and I don't know if that would be desirable anyways.
chezcaliente Driders
New Drider models are always welcome, but we have 3 or 4 already, don't we?
Dumb question, but maybe there could be a way where those who have a hak pack see the new stuff, and those who don't see a standard thing. Like with the helms.
That could lead into awkward situation. You could accidently comment on something that someone else doesn't really have. Better not.
I am against haks, period. My computer already has 6000 infiltrations I need to take care of.

In that case, you should delete a few things anyway!
While I doubt EfU will ever require a Hak to play, I certainly wouldn't mind if they did. Custom Content is always a bonus in my opinion. When I played in a DM Campaign we had over 1 Gig of Custom Content, everything from tilesets and spells to rideable horses was there - plus a very cool vampirism system. There are just some cool things that can't be done without Custom Content.
It's different with A campaign Meldread.
With a public server people are not going to download a gig of data when the public server next door lets them log on just like that.
As much as I love custom content, it just isn't viable for keeping the server popular
Would be possible to add more optional patches like the extra domains?

Its not as if there are going to be a ton of new players joining EfU by the time 1) the last patch comes out 2) Bioware stops supporting the game 3) NWN2 is really up and running and drawing off all the new players.
Also consider that there are really no other PWs out there without a hak by this stage. Certainly not the more popular ones, advertising on Neverwinter Vault and NW Connections will more than make up for any lost traffic because a hak scares someone off. Presuming it really does.
The most common objection that is legitimate I feel is the "I don't want to downloand a hak" objection and not the "but what about the new players!?" objection. I'm quite of the opinion that the awesome benefits of a hak are worth the few minutes or hour at most that it'll take for someone to download. We could have new monsters, items, tile sets and really open up more avenues for exploration and adventure in the Underdark.
If you could spend the half hour it takes to install this bloody game plus all the times you had to stop and do a normal patch, you can take another half hour to download a hak and the extra two seconds of putting it in your hak folder.
Well it's gonna be a long time before I go NWN2, for various reasons. About the driders, I like the new models but since we're a less sexual or R-rated server, the nude female driders might be a problem. I like small haks, like the custom domains and such. And some days, our server can't handle new people!
Oh, but I -love- Cep dresses. Nothing like a dwarf or half orc in a girly outfit :D
Certainly it is different. The campaign game I played in was for eight people, plus the DM and assistant DM. We also only played once per week.
Suffice it to say, if I downloaded 1.2ish Gig on Dial-up to play for roughly 5ish hours of NWN per week (not to mention re-shuffling things to ensure that those 5ish hours on Sundays were not screwed up) I'd certainly be willing to do the same for EfU.
Although, a tip from the DM who ran the campaign: They used CEP, but once they got loads of custom content in (most of it was never used) they wish they hadn't. It's better just to grab what you like from the CEP and disregard the rest. The same with the PRC - such as yanking their spells and the like but tossing most of those extra classes.
I have to agree with this. I downloaded and installed the PRC once and it made my games extremely laggy.
