Making the arena a quest area that PC's can rent?

I'd like to organize events (contests of various kinds), but getting a reward for challengers out of my PC's pocket make it difficult :(.

Is i possible to make the arena like a quest area that PC can rent (like the stand at the bazzar).

The PC doesn't get XP when he ends the quest (or maybe he can, actually), but gets the sum of donations that challengers are forced to pay if they wish to enter the arena, either to watch the show or to participate.

That way, he can pay the challenger according to donations, and eventually keep a little profit.

How does that sound?

There have, in the past, been Masters of The Arena. Though, shortlived.

You should pursue it in game!

This can be done one of two ways.

A) Hire a half orc to crush the heads of people who don't pay

2) Hire a bunch of half orcs to crush heads of people who don't pay.

Numerous fights have been held in the past forcing people to pay to compete and pay to watch the fight. The trick is, thinking of something so awesome that people would want to see the fight, paying 5-10 gold or what have you to enter, and combatants paying for a chance to fight for a magical reward of a prize or what not.

Well of course i though of that...

But i'll have to pay half orcs as well as contestants...

And finding PCs who'll wait outside all event long might prove hard too...

True, but if you do it right, it can be obscenely profitable.

Trick is, just generating enough interest amongst the PC/NPC community.

Ahh, the miracle of gamer patience,

Just get a rogue to trap the door with a deadly firetrap, put a warningsign on the front though.

Er.

I'm fairly sure fire-trapping a door is considered griefing <_<

Ah, damn, I thought my beauty would be sufficient! Silly me!

The chances of us scripting something like this when it is much better and more interesting to have PCs involved every part of the way (collecting attendance fees, bouncing, etc.) is very unlikely.

It is a good idea, but you would get a high level always trying to get in the fight and have a ton of great magical items.
